I tow a 30' travel trailer with my 2005 Titan. The Tranny temperature gauge will go way way high/hot, if I climb steep or very long mountain highways. Without going to an external cooler, has anyone had success at reducing temperature by using a specific tranny additive? The Travel Trailer weighs 6,300 lbs and I activate the ELECTRONIC TOW MODE switch the moment before starting out on the road.

Are you towing in 4th or D, you have the big tow package? Every Titan already come with 2 tranny cooler. I also remember reading someone saying a mechanic recommend not adding any kind of tranny cooler.

Whenever my trans temp gauge would creep up on hills, I'd drop it down to 3rd and the temp would drop fast. If that doesn't work for you, I'd have to wonder if you're over the weight limits since other folks on here tow and don't seem to have trans overheating problems.

Battlefield 2142 is the shiznit! It has TITAN MODE.
I have had the transmission heat up while pulling step grades at 2400 RPMS. My work around is to give it more gas, down shift and get the RPM's to at least 3000, maximum torque is at 3400 RPM's.
For all of you who are saying "downshift" I think this is great advice, especially for newbies to towing. I do have a question about that. What RPM range, in your opinion, is the max for you when towing up a hill in downshift mode for a length of time? I like to keep mine between 2,500 and 3,000 when downshifting, but I would like to hear from others.
Depending on the grade, if I need maximum torque I keep the RPM’s at 3300 – 3500 regardless of the gearing. Running the RPM”s above 3500 doesn’t get anymore torque and so I generally stay away from going about 4000. Gearing is all relative to what gear you are currently in and the torque needed to get up the hill, I also use my gears and RPM’s to maintain a safe and controlled speed going down a grade. On long downhill grades it’s my goal not to use the brakes at all, of course this is not always practical based on the grade and road condition.
if your towing in 4th up a grade w/ the motor at low rpm the tranny will heat up due to the enormous pressure from the high gear working against the weight. drop it to third and let the motor rev up more and take the stress off the tranny . thats what has worked the best or me.

[b]I have the truck in the Electronic Tow Mode in DRIVE. Should I be doing something different? Weight of travel trailer is 6,300 lbs.
