I was driving around the other day and decided to see how the manual shifting worked. Pressed the button and nothing happened... Read the manual again to make sure i did it right and everything, but no matter what ive tried, i cant get it to change.
Am i overlooking something? Any ideas on what could be wrong? Does my truck even support it then?

Pushing the button will put the tranny in 4th gear from overdrive. The toggle switch for changing gears is to the left of that button. So press the end button once, then use the toggle switch to select what max gear you want.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand that...

Can you do this while in Drive or do you have to be in park/neutral to do it? Ive tried it in Drive but it still wont let me do anything, maybe i have a malfunctioning button?

I had the exact same problem. I'm not sure if it will change if you are going too fast, but at low speeds and sitting still, you should see it change over to 4th out of drive on the instrument cluster. If it doesn't, take it to the dealership. My switch went bad and had to be replaced. After I had it replaced it still didn't work but the tech that fixed it didn't put the wiring harness in the exact place that he removed it from and when I turned the wheel it came unplugged, but he put it back in the right spot and it is fine now.

Yes, you can do it in drive and only in drive. Make sure you watch the shift indicator right above the steering wheel column. You will see the square move to each gear selected e.g. 1 2 3 4 D. Speed is not a factor unless you're going 50 and want to put it in 1st...lol. Please read your owners manual about gear selection.

Hi There;
Had the same problem and found that it was the manual shifter switch and ad to replace the complete shifter column (handle). Found out that the part wasn't under warrranty and $400.00 later it was working. Not impressed!!

I almost forgot about this thread! Anyways a quick update on my situation, i took it to the dealer and they replaced the shifter, and it still doesnt work. They said now the problem is in the guage cluster and ill have to replace that now....ive decided, unless my drivetrain decides to take a dump on me in the next 10k mi, im not going to the dealership anymore...

I use the little manual lever all the time and without going out and driving my truck to confirm that what I am writing is correct, below is the way I believe everything works. This, of course, is for the bench seat with the gear shifter positioned on the steering column.
The manual lever will not work if the column gear shifter is in D (Drive) position. You must first engage the overdrive button at the tip of the column shifter which puts the gear in 4th. Once in 4th gear the manual lever will allow you to advance up or down between 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st. Pressing the overdrive button will throw the gear back into Drive and the manual shifter ceases to function until the overdrive button is engaged again.
I hope this is helpful in explaining how the manual shifter works.
