the first 10 speed auto. transmission in their 2010 line of pickup trucks. Just what every truck owner has been asking for right? Along with that, large 20" diameter brake rotors.
Joking, but 5 gears seems like plenty to me, just a crack at the new Tundra. Seems that the mfg.'s keep saying more more more, that's all. Is it really necessary??? I'd like to know what advantage the Tundra 6-speed has over our 5-speed, besides the extra gear?

Gear ratio of 4.3:1 would give it a lot of low-end torque for pulling...

a 6spd gives you great freeway cruising and great pulling power. Their engine, tranny, rearend, and brakes are nothing short of awesome.
Toyota nailed it by over building a 1/2 ton...
They only thing they got wrong was the styling.
Nissan is gonna have a tough time selling Titans as they exist in their current form. They pretty much have to sell on styling and price. (Not that I care, I love my titan). However, Toyota is spending the money to get the midwest and texas exposed to the idea of buying a full size import truck. This will make it easier for Nissan to sell titans after they are revised in 200X.

If someone needs that much pulling power, they should be driving a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel, just my opinion though.
I think the same thing. Go take a 10,500 pound trailer at 70 mph in a 1/2 ton and then do 70 mph in a dually like a f-350 or a 3500. You will never go back to the 1/2 ton. It is nice to know that my truck will tow 9500 but if I was doing it every day I would have bought a 3/4 or 1 ton instead of my titan.
same concept as a race car or sports car. why do you think more and more "sports cars" come in 6 speed instead of 5? its because you can keep you engine in its power band. most of the power is created between 4000-5000RPM, so you can now keep the vehicle in its power band with another gear. gives you more power when you need it. simple.

i think toyota realized how butt ugly the tundra became and thought throwing some serious running gear in would make some good noise for them.. so far it seems as if it's worked.
i think everyone is pushing the envelope with what things should be, i.e. 6 speeds in a 1/2 ton. good, bad, or indifferent. the aftermarket is huge anymore and i think manufactures are really starting to take more of a notice, for example the 20" rims on all the rams that happened in the early 00's.

Yes, I know my automatic transmission tends to keep my RPM in that range when I'm driving around or towing.
The reason for a 6spd in a truck and sports car are similar, but that is not the reason you put a 6spd in a truck.

Toyota also has used the VVL on intake and exhaust. got over 400 ft/lbs torque also. that beats us.
How did nissan get the 317? +12 hp? ECU tuning from Stillen!!!
They need to use the VVl from the VQ motors (350Z) to operate the VK cams. we could get that HP also. what gives? waiting for toyota to come out with their motor and then I bet next year nissan will have a close to 400 hp motor bump!
