question about first time diff change

I have 6000 mi on my 06 2wd and want to change the diff fluid in the rearend because of some of the horror stories ive heard. Wondering what the factory uses and what is the best to change it with. i have heard some use synthetics? that would probably be good because i drive it pretty hard sometimes, but im not sure if theres a manditory wait period like there is with breaking in your engine before switching to synthetic. any advice on whats best and will NOT void warrenty???

Re: question about first time diff change

All titans after 05 come with synthetic from the factory. Just use the grade in the manual and stick with synthetic and they can't say anything about warranty.

I change mine out at 15K miles and it look bad. I would go ahead and do it now. I use Mobile 1 synthetic.

Re: question about first time diff change

I just did mine at 29K and the fluid looked fine. I used Amsoil front and rear. My local Napa has Amsoil cheaper than Mobil 1.

For the most part, Mandatory wait times to change most lubricants to synthetic in a modern vehicle are a myth...

Possibly but i never run full synthetic out of the gate on motors. at least one my race bikes i found i get more "blow-by" and carbon buildup on top of my piston if broken in on synthetics. it actually lubricates "too good" and doesnt allow a proper ring seat on the lower rings. dont know if trucks are the same i just do it to be safe. cause thats hp and compression u can never get back if it is true.

Thanx for all the tips.the 1st dealer i called sait $79, and the 2nd said $130+. He said the big tow gears take a little over 3 qts! i was planning on doing it myself anyways and i bought 3 qts. no way it could be more! Bought mobil1 synthetic 75-140w. best stuff at kragen or autozone. im paronoid about royal purple anything, even though ive heard nothing but praises. 60,000 on my 01 silverado 5.3 and it seized the first week i put in royal purple. anyone want a 5.3 ls motor block??

Re: question about first time diff change

I put just a tad over 2qt in the rear and it started running out the filler hole. dealer will charge for the full 3 qts.

dealer tried to qoute for 4 qts. i did it yesterday took 2 qts + a little bit of another one. Only like 1 and half came out from what the factory had in there. cheap ba$tards! We did my buddys too and his was low from factory also. a lot of metal shavings stuck to drain bolt after only 6k on odometer

Re: question about first time diff change

I would recommend every one check there fluid before the warranty runs out, like 59K miles. And if there is more than just a little metal make sure that the dealer makes note of the problem and give you a copy.

Re: question about first time diff change

i tried to get them to check it and they didnt want to unless i paid for it. they said just drive it and if it does go out u'll get a new free rearend! i said ya thats nice except for the fact that ill be sitting on the side of the road at sompoint. I recremend doing it yourself if your able too. then you know its done right. after talking to most techs at nissan, chevy, ford etc., ive learned i know more about my vehicles than 90% of them do. Tards
