Newbie to the Forum - have a 2004 and just turned over 29900 miles and noticed a slight squeal on Monday morning - thought might be slipping belt so used some belt lube - no change, but it now sounded more like a bearing noise, like maybe a waterpump or something - Tuesday morning when I am taking my granson to daycare, the damned oil pressure gauge starts bouncing all over the place and the idiiot light for adding oil comes on - WFTO!!!!!!!????
so, I call the dealer, and they can't et me in until Thursday morning - drop the Titan Thursday and the service writer calls and says they can't duplicate the problem - ask if they drove the truck and they say they only hooked the computer up - tell them to drive the truck - well they do some other tests Friday morning
he service manager calls this time on Friday afternnon - we have some bad news - we need to replace your engine!!!!! as well as the oil and transmission coolers, all of the tubing, etc. - seems there was metal shavings in the oil pan and the cooling lines were clogged with sludge - well, I'm in an Xterra until they get the Titan back to me - Nissan paying for it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! an 04' with an 07' Engine!! That will be sweet!! Good luck, and let us know how long it takes them!!
Oh, and Welcome to Titan Talk!!!

I'd think that will be an '04 with a Nissan remanufactured or Nissan new '04-'06 engine. The '07 has VVT Intake, meaning different ECU and possibly other minor changes in harness. Interesting to know what he gets. And how pleased he is with long term results. Since parts and service is based on the VIN code, to change an engine model isn't likely from a dealer. Only owners would take such a radical route to use a newer design. OEM is OEM unfortunetly.
What was source/cause of the metal shavings? Avoidable?
Welcome to the Forum c5vetter. I'm in Arnold, just off Rt 2 and College Pkwy, near the CC. Couldn't make a grander first post could you!? Hope this all works out well for you. Are you going to Sheehy in Glen Burnie?
Check out the Northeast Forum thread and Charm City Titans Club when you get a chance. You might like meeting some other Titan owners. We got 2 or 3 guys in Severn coming out on the 24th, along with others of course.

They will most likely put in a new crate motor from Nissan....usually the same year...but new. Hopefully they put in an entire longblock and don't try to re-use the stock heads on a new short block.

Re: 2004 Titan - New Engine to be Installed - UPDATE
well, Nissan screwed up initially and sent a short block! I refused and told them they needed to install a LONG BLOCK - well that took another week to send and do the exchange - got the Titan back on March 23 and have put about 300 miles on the new engine - everything seems back to normal - will give the Titan real test towing trailer to Charlotte and back to Baltimore
Are you joking dude? He is not complaining, just sharing news about his Titan.
Where is he complaining?
I was just goin to say that Erik .. heII if that's a complaint ..he got taken care of .. though the service Dept. started off in a bad way with him .. he posted resolution to a warranty issue .. glad they're replacing it for you c5vetter .. and welcome ..
Chris

local Nissan dealer (Tischer Nissan of Laurel, MD) was fantastic through the entire process - had me in a brand new XTerra (16 miles when I started and almost 2000 miles when I got my truck back) the entire time and kept me informed through the entire process -
BTW - will use the truck to trailer from Baltimore to Charlotte and back - should have around 2000 miles on the truck before I do trailer, so should be good to go
