What kind of engine additives do you use

Like the title says, What brand or type works well with the Titan? i read somewhere that some injector cleaners are bad for our trucks because they wear other internals in our motor. couldnt find the posts so i dont know where his proof is. But i would like to keep my engine carbon clean as much as possible before too much buildup accumulates. In the past ive bought the bigger names like Vp synthetic. Any thoughts? (and no i dont need ur thoughts jBaltimore haha!)

I don't use any! Spray some water in the intake if you want to clean the carbon!

Re: What kind of engine additives do you use

Just use Chevron gas and you won't have to worry about using additives.

Re: What kind of engine additives do you use

I'm another vote for none. If your engine is well maintained, you shouldn't need any additives.

Re: What kind of engine additives do you use

Nissan specifically states to not use any oil or gasoline additives in the Titan.

Re: What kind of engine additives do you use

Dont waste your time with oil additives oil has plenty of ads already in it. I do recomend Chevron techron concentrate for fuel injector cleaner use that and you wont have a prob cheap and wont hurt anything either.

Re: What kind of engine additives do you use

We always used to caution against 'snake oil remedies.' The additive packages in oils and fuels (good fuels) are typically enough to keep an engine clean and working right.

We all saw enough cars and trucks that were regular customers in our shop go to good high mileages without that stuff; it always seemed like the guys who added stuff had problems.

I learned my own lesson the hard way after one of those guys with "Guaranteed Good Results" came through and sold us several cases of some supposedly great stuff. I tried it and ended up having to replace the whole set of lifters in my Javelin. Ouch. On a mechanic's salary in the early '70's. We ate beans and rice for a week...

Most of that stuff isn't worth your engine.

I'm not saying never use them, but quite honestly, I don't see why we should need any additves in a properly maintained engine.

Name brand fuels with higher than gov't stds of detergent, decent oil changes (Dino or Syn) and engines should stay clean. As much as I admired Richard Petty as a kid, I never understood why I should "need" STP. Or Marvel Mystery Oil in the Oil or Gas! What's wrong with the gas or oil that they aren't doing the job? I just changed an oil pan gasket on a 7.8L Ford Diesel, after about 5 years since the last one, about 300,000+ miles. It had no sludge at all!

I do use carb cleaner on dirty looking carbs, and a special carb cleaner on ONAN gas Generators, because ONAN says to do so. It has to do with their engine design, it builds carbon and has to be cleaned every 200 hrs or so. But additives do scare me. Car mfg rarely if ever endorse any of them.
