Re: Transmission Flush / Fluid Questions

I stand corrected by your posts. I guess Nissan has made it easier, yet again, at their expense.

Putting a paper crappy filter in there would have same them a couple bucks per truck.

Re: Transmission Flush / Fluid Questions

The Titan tranmission is designed to have Matic J only. Do not add anything else, including additives, and especially other types of fluid. Don't let anyone flush the trans with a cheaper fluid. The filter is metal and doesn't require replacing. The Matic J is considered long life 100k mile service interval fluid. However, this changes depending on usage. If you do a lot of off roading, towing, or live in a city or hilly area, I suggest doing a drain and fill every 30k. Nissan transmissions have been lasting forever with a simple drain and fill every 30k, no reason to change now.

Isnt Amsoil ATF considered to be covered now? I thought I saw a post recently.

So I should only Flush it ONLY at 100K but drain and fill at 30K intervals. I do off road some, and will be towing a lot more after my first experience (bought a brake controller ect) Only in the 5-7K range for towing but its still towing.

Id like to do the Drain and Fill myself if its as easy as it sounds for the drain.

My plan is to keep this truck for a while so I want to keep up on maintenance with her and Id love to do it myself if possible.

Thanks for all the help and info. It seems I may just pick up the Matic J from Nissan and do it myself if I shouldn't do a flush at 45K.

Re: Transmission Flush / Fluid Questions

I have heard that the transmission is 100 percent made in Japan. Mine is rock solid. I plan on having my full flush done at the dealer at 50,000 miles. This may be pricey, but what is the value on "piece of mind"?

Its not just the cost. I realize its not that much cheaper to do it myself truly. I want to do the work myself if its not very complicated. Ive always had the desire to learn maintenance stuff and if I pay someone else I miss out on simple things like this :-) If I want the true flush of course I will have the dealer do it.. however it seems the interval is 100K not 45k miles. I will do the proper flush with the dealer at that point but I want to do some things myself if I can :-)

I dont like just giving things to other people to do. Its my truck and I know I care a lot more about it than some other guy.

Re: Transmission Flush / Fluid Questions

I just happen to be at the dealer today getting promiss work done and I asked the mechanic which was older fella with a sleeve full of credintials. He said to do a full flush when the manual says to. My other trucks gets the full flush on Thursday at 31k. Dealer says it's $135.
