Transmission Dip Stick

Noticed there is a cap on the transmission dip stick. Is this normal? How can you check and fill the transmission with fluid? Does it have to be taken to a dealership?

A 10mm wrench will get it done...The dealer would love you for bringing it in to check the fluid....

Re: Transmission Dip Stick

When checking fluid, make sure the tab where the bolt is face the opposite direction of where it normally is.

Re: Transmission Dip Stick

What color should the fluid be? Are these trannys supposed to be flushed at 30k miles?

Red, Nissan does reccommend a flush at 30,000 miles.

Re: Transmission Dip Stick

Since I use my grease rag to clean my glasses, I guess I really should be willing to use my Lint Free paper to clean the dipstick!

It is a serious matter in reality, a little lint can clog extrememly small passages, even just a little bit, and cause problems with trans. I think because they want to maintain the quality so much, they made it difficult to check. It avoids over casual checking. Most ofus will never have to add any fluid, especially if we get a flush and fill every 30K at the dealer. Today's trans are incredibly good machines.

Thanks. The reason I asked was I had an oil change that they checked the fluid. They said the tranny was fine. I thought it was fishy because the tranny is not the same as new. I checked the fluid and it was not red, it was kinda clear brown. Well it sucks they lied. I hope they didn't about there brake inspection, they said I had over 70% left. What is the average brake pad change?

Will the warranty be voided if I do not follow the dealership service intervals? Just wondering, now I have to save for the stealership visit.

1. I wouldn't worry about the tranny fluid just yet. I amm getting old, it's been awhile since I checked mine, and it may just be brown, although I thought it was still red. I may just be thinking of all my other cars and trucks. Nissan may have changed the color. Typically the color is different from the engine oil to make hunting for leaks a little easier. I will check it again. Hopefully someone will chime in to tell you I am loosing my mind and it is brown.

2. They could void your warranty if you can not prove that you have maintained the truck in accordance with their maintenance plan.
3. Average change for what? I typically change my pads when I get down to 25-30% left. This is before they get to the tell take, when you here the squeeking when you apply the brakes. The last thing you want to do is put the rivets in the rotors. You have plenty of pad left.
