Transmission noise - is this normal?

Hello,

I thought I follow-up my other post with this information.

The tranny in my truck (4x4 SE Titan) has always made a clunky noise in the first 10-20 seconds after driving it in P. It only does it once but it happens everytime you drive it. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was normal, something to do with the torque converter ??? Does your truck make the same noise?

My 07 doesn't. I wonder if your transmission fluid is low? Good luck and i would take it somewhere else and get a second opinion.

How do you drive while in Park?

Re: Transmission noise - is this normal?

All Titans do it. It is a test of some componets which occurs every time you first start the truck. It only occurs one time after you start the truck. If you shut it off and start it again, it will do it again.

Re: Transmission noise - is this normal?

I've been wondering about that also. Good to know it's normal. However, a few weeks ago I was going fishing after some rain traveling down a muddy dirt/clay road where I needed 4wd. While in 4wd going through some of the slushy stuff, I was hearing the same type of noise that we're talking about, but instead of just doing it once, it would do it every few seconds, AND the truck seemed very difficult to get moving, even in 4HI. It was like I had to give it a lot of accelerator to get it going and then that noise would start while under acceleration. Is this normal? Could it be the anti-lock brake system at play?
