100 degree temps and oil

So we are getting high temps down here..

From 96 to 104 degrees temp, So should I use a different oil than the 5w-30?

I have never looked into this different oils for different temps, but I really want my titan to last as long as it can...

any help with this???

thanks

Re: 100 degree temps and oil

I wouldn't switch oil grades, BUT I would use a good synthetic. I'm a Moble 1 guy, but there are others.
The synthetics handle the heat better then dino oil...

Re: 100 degree temps and oil

With constant temps like that, I would only use a synthetic oil.

Re: 100 degree temps and oil

I've always used regular dinosaur oil and probably always will until the prices get closer or syn is all I can buy. 5-30 is fine for those temps, but you need to keep your oil change intervals closer. I recommend 3k.

Re: 100 degree temps and oil

I'd run a slightly thicker lube, I really like mobil 1 0w-40, its on the lighter side of the 40wt scale and should have no issue going a minimum of 7500 miles. Another good oil is the Castrol syntec 0w-30,(don't go near the 5w or 10w-30 syntec), the 0w-30 should say "made in Germany" on the back of the package, only place i've ever found it is at autozone. Its at the higher end of the 30wt scale, almost a 40wt and also carries an acea A3 certification. Both oils have excellent pumpabilty, something rather important with a dohc 32 valve engine while still maintaining a higher viscosity. Basically they are both the perfect oil for extreme temps at both ends of the spectrum. My truck doesn't even strain on a -25 degree cold start with either oil.

Re: 100 degree temps and oil

Most of todays modern engines are designed to run 5-30 type oils, and even the engine cooling aspect is designed around that. Lighter oils move faster thru the engine including drainback and this aids in the oil cooling of the engine.
Our engines use direct opening valves, no hydraulic lifters to keep pumped up.
Want to bump up to a 40 grd oil? If it's a synthetic then fine, it will flow, but theres no real need to change grades, best upgrade in extreme temps(hot & cold) is switch to synthetic...
