timing advance

What does resetting the timing advance do in terms of performance? I've seen several mentions of it, but no explanation.

Re: timing advance

It ignites 2 degrees ealier (more advanced) whichs provides longer burn time, releasing more energy.

Re: timing advance

Yea, this is a no-brainer. It's the easiest way to get some extra horses out of your truck. See if you can find someone in your area that has Cipher to do it. Some dealers will, but some dealers will just look at you like you've lost your mind...

I think I remember someone showing a before/after dyno increase of 6-8 hp, I get around 14mpg city 18-19hwy, I haven't had any problems, and a Nissan dealer did it so there shouldn't be a warranty issue. I paid $50 for mine, but with more and more people getting Cipher you may be able to find a local member to help you out.

Re: timing advance

I have an good relationship with my local nissan owner / service manager they are both good customers of mine that I see several times a week. I'm sure I can get this done. I just wanted to know what I was talking about when I went in, thanks. Is there any other low cost tricks. I just traded for my 04 about 6 mo ago and want to do some mods, but my budget is tight. They will do most of my labor for free.

Re: timing advance

I did one Saturday, and shocked the guy by having it done in about 4 minutes with the Cipher. Shaileys test show about 6 Hp and 18 TQ increase. It makes a fiarly good differance in how the throttle "feels". Much more immediate. Though once you get to ride in an UpRev tuned, you'll start to pant for that too! Where abouts are you located?

Do a search for Uprev and/or Osiris. You'll have hours of reading ahead of you...
