Rear Diff Problems

I was driving around last night and started to turn when I heard a loud clank that proceded to feel like I ran over a huge log. Then after that it would clank and clank every 30 feet, so I took it to a local foriegn auto repairsman and all he could say was something in the rear end. I do not drive that hard, I mean occasionally I take off a little hard but I never thought anything to do this. Does anyone have any ideas, I am real confused.

Re: Rear Diff Problems

My idea is to take it to the dealer and get a new rear axle.

Re: Rear Diff Problems

So if I get a new axle, is it going to do it again? Because I really can't afford that to happen again while I am in college for the next four years. Is there any way to make it more reliable?

Re: Rear Diff Problems

I heard the new axle are better. You can get a truetrac put in.

Re: Rear Diff Problems

Would the TruTrac help reliability? Or would that maybe stress the transmission? I just really need to know if the Titan will hold up because I hate to get rid of it for just a regular extended cab chevy, not that there is anything wrong with the chevy at all, I just like the Titan better overall.

Re: Rear Diff Problems

the trutrac will help overall. You might be able to talk your dealer into doing it under warranty. It saves them the cost of replacing the entire rear diff assembly. All they have to do is order the tru trac, install it and you both are happy.

My dealer promised me this deal WHEN my rear end goes out.

Just so you know, street price is most likely going to cost more from them than 4WheelParts. I can give them a call later today and check street pricing... I get most parts from them @ cost. And I don'' want to give up my sources, just in case they are doing it on the "down low" and I don't want to get anyone in trouble and lose my hook up.
