Four Wheel Drive

Ok guy's here is my question. When driving in two wheel drive does the front drive shaft spin/turn? And when engaging into four wheel drive does the engagment happen at the front diff or in the transfer case?

When driving in 2wd, the front half shafts, diff and driveshaft are all spinning. 4wd engagement happens in the transfer case. This drag, along with added equipment weight contributes to decreased fuel economy over 4x2's.

The reason for my question is I have had a drivshaft disconnect kit (Remco) installed on my truck so that I may tow it behind my motor home. By disconnecting the rear driveshaft I think I should be ok. If the front shafts are turning all the time it should not make a difference as far I can see.

Any comments?

You might want to check into that deaper. You might still need to dissengauge the front for the same reasons as the back. No pump to pump the oil. Not sure though. I just dont want you to end the hunt there.

There is something I remember in the Titan manual that a 4x4 Titan should NOT ever be towed. I can't exactly remember the wording, and it may be for the rear driveshaft/diff. issues, and I'm sure the reason is not listed in the manual. But I'd look in the manual for more info on this first.
