My 06 Titan started this jolt on acceleration is that what you are describing as undercarriage movement. Nissan replaced my rear axle saying that was the problem. It was leaking a few months back and was repaired. It's been in twice for the jolt and has yet to be fixed.

Is there a way to fix the undercarriage movement?

I've been looking all over and found this site which has tons of info. Glad I found it.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

i have 39000 mile on mine, atleast 10000 are pulling 6000#s plus. i'm always checking for leakes, listening for clunks and whines, i can say that this truck has given me not 1 problem, original tires & brakes. if or when mine goes out i hope it's still under warranty. if it goes out after warranty, new seals, bearings and true track will be installed and hope it lasts.

I think axle wrap is the problem. The jolt, as you call it, I think is caused by the driveshaft movement as the differential rotates up and down while accelerating or braking. The splined joint at the transmission is not sliding easily and tends to bind up as we brake to a stop. When we take off, the shaft slides back and causes the noise. We need to grease that spline. I am looking for a drawing of our transmission to see how the spline is connected and how to get grease to it easily. Other cars have had that same problem through the years. Some help has been achieved by putting helper springs on the leaf springs which helps with the axle wrap and therefore helps with the sliding of the spline joint which is binding.

I added Helper Springs as well to reduce the bind. Traction bars I believe would also help.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Thanks guys, since I still have a little warranty left is there anything Nissan can do?

I'm about to crawl under and look at transmission mounts and lube the the spline as described on another thread. I think i've spent a day looking all thru this site, full of great info. Now I'm wanting to do a lot of mods.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Don't know if Nissan will do anything. $22 helper springs have worked for some on here, but if you really want to address the axle wrap the traction bars offered by PRG are probably the best bet.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Do you guys think my 2008.5 will eventually end up having that problem with the axle(s)?

I told them about the bumps on take off since new, and their solution was to replace entire drive shaft, hangar bearing included, since it is 2wd. Worked in my case. I am sure the axle still wraps, just the spline shaft slides freely now.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Hello everyone, this is a troubling thread. I have a 2004 CC. Just this weekend we replaced both seals and bearings. The Axle was pitted and marred. We attempted to smooth this out and put it all back together. two days later I am leaking on the passenger side again. I ended up getting here cause we are unable to locate any type of seal repair kit and/or sleeve.

Any advice on where I go from here? We were thinking to turn them on a lathe for a better finish? Suggestions input is very much appreciated.

If you're under 60K, take it in and the dealer should cover leaky axle seals (maybe even the entire rear final drive assembly) under the powertrain warranty. Have them call you before they do any work that they would charge you for. What's the condition of your axle breather? Sometimes those can get clogged and pressurize the axle housing. Many people have done axle vent mod to prevent that. Did you do any work on the axle shafts themselves or just replace the seals and bearings? I am wondering if the dealer may try to pull the "you messed with it, you broke it" excuse to not honor the warranty. If I were you, I'd hold off on the axle vent mod until after you have the dealer look at yours. I would think that turning the shafts on a lathe would make your leaking problem worse unless you can find a sleeve or seal kit.

If all else, you can replace the stock diff and axle shafts with a Trutrac and aftermarket axles if you can find a combo that fits in the stock axle housing. Also, several members on here swapped the entire rear final drive assembly in favor of a Dana 60 from someone like Dynatrac. Not cheap but comparable to what a dealer would steal you for if they decide not to honor the warranty (plus you'll have a MUCH better axle). Good luck!

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Nah, This Titan has 113k on it, I am not the original owner so I ma not sure if this is the first issue or not. We polished both sides a little hoping that that would make a good seal, but like I said it is leaking again, but much slower at this point. The breather was replaced with this modification, I am unsure as to the condition of the one on there. At this point I am looking for an recommendations on where to get a sleeve? Any help is much appreciated.
