Re: Dana's Response about failures

Thanks Joker 19. I just got mine back today, they changed the whole rear axle. Had the tranny and fuel injection done while in there. Premiere Nissan was more than helpful, gave me a rental car and also notified me of a recall on the condenser fan motor. A big thumbs up for that Dealership.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

I Have 73,300 on my Titan, Happy with the truck never had a problem but my rear end took a dump on me and I have to pay out of pocket. They want $4300. for the work which is bullsh''t. I want to rebuild it myself with high performance parts but I'm having a hard time finding vendors, am I going to have to swap the whole rear? Who can guide me if I would of known that they were not going to warranty it I would of not let them even touch it.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Go online and search. I have found new diffs for around $1500. Have it shipped to your mechanic to install. Prob do the whole job for less than $2500.

Just the axle?

Getting the axle out is "easy."

The hardest part is being patient enough to break the seal to release the axle.

I used a mason's hammer (it's just a big heavy hammer) to do that.

Open the differential cover. On the bottom of the differential itself is a pin. Use a drift pin to get it out, and if I remember correctly, the axle should release.

Then just put it back together the way you found it. And maybe use the synthetic differential fluid they recommend nowadays.

Here's the project build they did at fourwheeler. I want to do the same thing one day when I learn how to weld: http://www.fourwheeler.com/projectbuild/129_0506_2004_nissan_titan_custom_dana_60_axles/index.html

Let us know how you did. Take care.

...Uh that is in-correct....

After removing the 4 nuts behind the backing plate(and of course all the brake stuff...) the axle will come out with a slide hamer and adapter plate bolted to the axle flange...

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Has anyone questioned Dana about the problems with our front axles? Seals going out, shafts not seated, shafts popping out and other issues I didn't mention? Seems like they dropped the ball front and rear. And from the first post response from Dana sounds like they knew that these problems were eminent and still supplied them? This is no big deal to the folks in warranty, but when your out you are looking at a chunk of change. The after market loves are trucks as much or more than we do. What happened to the quality of the 21st century? JDK??
