Re: Dana's Response about failures

I don't see any specific talk about shattered spider gears with Dana? The 2 Spider Diff was the biggest problem.

doubt that - Dana is the expert and would have identified that it was a bad spec and or design.

I haven't had a failure yet.

If anyone has questions fire off an email to Dana.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

How about this.

Today the Dana Tech called me and kindly asked me to remove his name from the post. My mistake I should not have posted his name and honestly did not realize I had. Anyhow his upper management brought it to his attention. So if you think Nissan doesn't monitor these boards think again.
He also wants me to praraphase his email to me, sorry I don't what good that will do. We as Titan owners have vested intrest in how Nissan is solving problems. This might determine what vehicle any of us buy next.

I will not pull the post unless it causes interferance with his job.

I love my Titan but am very upset with Nissan and their parts / service.

It is an absolute joke that you can not buy any rear-end parts other than wheel bearings and seals! I need a friggin pinion bearing and can't get any answers from Nissan or Dana on one.
I am sick and tired of hearing."we only sell new axle assemblies"

It not right that you cant buy a pinion bearing, spacers, crush sleeve etc.

E-mailed Dana several times for any help and never get a response.

Granted I have 125K miles on the truck, but after contacting the previous owner, I found out this is the 3rd axle it has had in it.

Instead of being able to spend $150 on parts and fix it my self, i am left with spending $1800+ on a new axle and still fixing it myself!

I just needed to vent a bit!!!!!!!!

Has "anyone" thought to take their truck to a quality machine shop and have parts fabricated??????

I am a 15 year F150 owner and recently, due to Ford pissing me off, have traded my '07 F150 for an '08 Titan. I never had a single issue with any of the F150's I owned. I was a Z plan Ford buyer and when I went to buy an '08 F150, Ford said no because I had "used the Z plan too often".

However, I really like my new Titan, but this forum is scaring the hell out of me with all the issues I am seeing people having with the Titan.

Well, you have an 08 I have read Nissan "beefed" up the rear end starting with that year. Hopefully you will be ok. Trust me I had my rear end replaced at roughly 10k and since have done the trutrac even though I am 20k under the drive train warantee. I tow a lot and hate being without my truck. BTW, I test drove all the 1/2 ton trucks before buying this one (my first truck ever and was sold as soon as I left the lot) how do you like the power vs. the f-150.... One more thing.. It couldnt hurt to do the axle vent mod no matter what year.... IMO.

No comparison...The Titan even "feels" to have more power behind the wheel.
The F150 is no slacker, but the difference in power is what impressed me the most about the Titan.

Yeah, I am going to take all this info from here and hopefully bypass as many issues as possible. Hopefully they have "most issues" resolved or at least limited in the '08.5's

Good forum.

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Also keep in mind you won't see people posting up all over the place saying how great their axle has been. People don't praise when things work like they should, so while it may sound like everyone is having problems that is far from reality.

Visit any forum for a given vehicle and you will see tons of horror stories, but I've yet to come across one with so many members always proclaiming their love for their truck.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes I know no manufacturer makes the "entire" car,but when they chose to farm out components they still are the "general contractor" of the vehicle. They must take the responsibility that these parts are built to their standards. It is Dana's fault for the poor quality, but it is Nissan's responsibility to police them and not let them get out of hand.
Ha-Ha... I know nothing!!!

My 0.02.. Nissan says I want this and here is what I will pay you for it. It's up to Dana to say, "we can do that" or "pound sand"... But, you are right, Nissan puts their name on the car, so it's in their best interest to put the best parts on it.. But, Nissan stated that the truck had a Dana diff, so shouldn't Dana make sure they step up an supply the best they could.

Wait, didn't we have this argument already??

Re: Dana's Response about failures

Lets face it, the Dana diff in our truck is weak, period. They should have put a better diff in but they didn't. After the 04-05 problems with the diff, they should have replaced it or fixed it. They didn't. The 07 and 08 Titans should have big, strong diffs capable of the 9500 pound rating, but they don't. It is a shame we are not talking about how great this truck drives, handles, how much power it has and how it is the best looking truck out there. But we are not. We are talking about exploding diffs. That is Nissans fault, period. Maybe one day they will smarten up and fix the problems instead of sticking their head in the sand. Maybe not?
