some guys have noticed more valve trane noise when they switched to M1 synthetic. I run M1 and the only ticking noise that i hear is from the injectors. I have 50K on mine and have been running M1 for 48K.

I have had it since my truck had like 4k as well, it now has 48k. Sounds like it is coming form the top of the engine. I installed a ground kit which seemed to help for a while, but now the noise is back....Sometimes, esp after a long drive. I took it to the dealer and of course it stopped ticking, or did not make the noise for them...
It's pretty common, I guess. Almost sounds like a Diesel huh, but not quite as deep or loud and seems a bit fasterand more of a tick than a knock?

I got some noise too, been meaning to take it in but i never have the time. My engine has begun running a little rough too, dont know if its a coincidence, the truck starts to vibrate enough where i can feel it in the seats, it feels like something is "off balance". This is along with the pretty loud diesel type noise i hear which wasnt there before,
48k on an 04
It is not a knock in the lower end. It is definetly a ticking noise in the top end. I also think it has something to do with the injectors. I told the tech that and while he had it hooked up to the computer he shut down each cylinder one at a time. There was no one cylinder that made a difference, we heard the ticking noise the whole time.It is driveing me f-ing crazy but i can't keep going to the dealer. I have been there 3 times and have been without my truck for a total of a week so far. It is a major inconvience to keep doing this especially since the dealer is allmost an hour away.
I dont think anyone is going to get this noise fixed. it's just the way these motors sound. I know some of you guys dont want to accept that, but it's the truth. There isnt anything wrong with your motor. So.....if you are having to pay for dealer service or down time without your vehicle, it's useless. It is a common noise on OHC motors. It's definitely in the cam/valve area. And if you don't like it now......dont get a set of cams installed!!!! Each motor and MFR is different. But as far as getting this fixed.......good luck, and post if you do!!!!

You are correct, I took mine to the dealer for this and was told thats just how it is supposed to sound, I was told it was a lifter tapping and that was becasue of the type of lifters Nissan uses. So take em in, but be aware that this will more than likely be the message your given by the tech.

Hey guys let me give you a way to check out the tick in teh upper end of the motor. Get a wooden stick, kite stick, 1/4 round, broom anything wood and stick one end directly on the injector and the other at the base of your ear. I bet you hear the ticking noise. Seriously.
Also the noise heard under the neath the motor about at the tranny housing I have yet to determine what exactly that is but it is common among al Titans I have crawled under.
When you get efans the injector noise is much more noticable and is just how they sound.
Hope this helps.

Too many mods to list PM me I'll tell ya.
I have an 04 xe non bt and mine makes a ticking noise that sounds like lifter noise coming from the valve covers that just started here recently. It is coming from both heads but doesn't sound like an exhaust leak. Any ideas? I can take it to the dealer but I hope they know what they are doing because I have only 6000 miles left on my extended warranty. My truck has 86000 miles on it and I need it to last a long time.
Im also having a ticking noise.not knocking, only can hea it mostly when the hood it up but its pretty noticable. I went to the dealership and heard another titan and when it started to cool it was having the ticking to but not as loud. his guess was the lifters also
Thank god I found this thread. I have the same damn ticking . Heres when I can hear it the most. When i am parked next to a building in a drive through. I also notice it when the hood is up . Its coming form the top of the motor for sure on mine, And it does not get louder when you open the throttle. Or atleast i can not hear. I just bought my TITAN and its an o4. Noticed it teh first day but wrote it off. But know its driving me nuts.

I also had this noise for a while. The other day I was looking again and the heat shield on the exhaust had come out of the strap. I picked up an exhaust clamp, slapped it on, and the noise is gone. Hope this helps somebody.
My 04 Titan has the same motor noise that sounds like a tick, it comes and go's. I noticed that my oil pressure gauge drops to 25 percent during a long-time idle (3 mins.) The oil pressure gauge normally is at 50 percent ( the needle pointing straight down) I have always kept up on the oil/filter changes and I run full synthetic oil. Has anyone noticed the oil pressure drop in your Titan? Thanks, Tom
