I have a pretty hard shudder in the drivetrain when leaving from a stop. Generally shudders 2 or 3 times then is fine. If you slowly ease into the gas it is fine but in most cases it shudders. It is far worse with any load behind it or much weight in the box.
I am thinking it has to be torque convereter issues. It is fine once you are moving, like if you pull out to pass someone it is perfecty ok, no shudder, only from a stop.
Anybody else ever have this problem?

Can also be universal joints. Pinion angle can also cause shuttering. Sometimes pulling a load or under heavy acceleration, the diff will bow up and cause the pinion angle to change so much that it can cause vibration. I have noticed it with my Titan pulling a trailer. If I had to enter the freeway in a hurry , I could feel the vibration but when I let of the gas, vibration stopped. Titans have weak springs and axle wrap is common. Once I installed the helper springs, most problems are solved.

Have you flushed your trans fluid lately? If you haven't, that might help. We use BG products when doing our flushes where I work. One of the cans is specifically for torque shudder. I comes in a 2 can pack.

I have similar issues. My truck off the line acts like a U joint is going out. But, I have taken the truck to the dealership 3 times for this. They replaced the rear end but that did not fix the issue. Here are list of things that have been checked:
U joint
transmission mount
motor mounts
Anyone else have similar issues?
This is driving me nuts.

Bought first week out! Boy am I dumb!
Thanks for all the opinions. I too thought of u-joints at first, had them replaced a while back and to no avail.
Going to have the tranny flushed and refilled in a few days. Hopefully it will help.
I find it odd that it only does it when leaving from a dead stop. That is what leads me to the torque converter idea, almost acts like it does not lock-up properly. I have absolutely no other vibrations at all. After you get moving the truck drives and feels great.
I let you know if the tranny flush helps.
Thanks again!!

Try making these plates and shiming the carrier bearing. Home Depot carries the metal. I'd start with 3 thick and see if it gets better add until it stops if you get over 7 stop cause your likely not fixing the pinion angle and it's something else.

many companys sell the carrier bearing spacer that will help a little but traction bars will solve the problem. Is there any lift on your truck? Theres nothing wrong with your trans>>>

Nope, no lift on the truck. Haven't had the trans looked at yet. Thought I would try the cheap springs first. Got them on today, they seemed to help a little, give it a shot with the trailer on it tommorow. Trans seems to work properly otherwise, probably end up with traction bars in the near future!

I experienced this with my truck while towing a 23' tow hauler, only happened from a stop. Can't blame ujoints, trans fluid, etc since the truck only had 1700 miles or so on it at the time. It's not axle wrap either, definitely felt like something in the trans.
Also, it wasn't immediately after starting from a stop, as in starts at 0mph and stops at 15mph, more like it would start at 5mph and stop at 10mph. Not violent at all. Pretty weird, but shrugged it off as just the way it is. 17,000 miles and no problems.

Check your motor mounts. I doubt that it's the problem but you never know. I broke one in my chevy and it would shutter only while taking off or backing up.

Well towed the work trailer about 150 miles, lots of stopping and starting. The helpers did seem to help alot. only does it when starting out on a hill now, but not as bad as it was. Starting on level ground is greatly improved!
Have to wait a few weeks and then try traction bars also. Hopefully they will take over where the helpers are leaving off!
