Momentary tranny failure...

Hey All,
I'm new hear and want say thanks to everyone hear!
I have been lurking for a couple of days and have gained ALOT of info!
It never ceases to amaze me how folks like yourselves come together to help each other and share knowledge, as well as just being friendly and welcoming your neighbors and fellow enthusiasts with open arms!
Kind Regards and god bless everyone!!!

Well,
here is my issue...I have an 06 King Cab 4x4 with the offroad package, and tow package extras. I bought my truck new, and have had it since July 9 of 06'
Just flipped 14K miles last week...My kid races MX and I am a weekend warrior, I bought my truck for getting the bikes where they need to go basically and not as a primary car. I have only had it off road two times. The first was within a week of the purchase just as a check, make sure everything was working as it should. I take down dirt roads in the desert, but as for canyon stuff, pushing it, only twice...The second time was about three weeks ago...I was in Azusa canyon in So. Cal. and was just putting with my son and his buddy, just a fun casual session. Well, I backed up a hill...nothing to big, but it took some torque...reverse at about half throttle. Then I hit it forwards..same thing. That was the "tough stuff" if you can call it that! About 20 minutes later, I went up a VERY SMALL sort of ledge, maybe four feet tall with a clean trail, though kinda steep it was nothing I could'nt tackle in a baja bug! I got over it and "CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK" I was DEAD, the drivetrain would'nt grab!!! As far as I'm concerned, my truck is still brand new with 14 K miles and primarily highway ONLY driving...I doubt if I have more than 100 total dirt miles!!!! So needless to say, I was pissed, and scared...It fealt AND SOUNDED like I was rolling over boulders but I was going NOWHERE...After about 30 seconds or so, I turned it off...started her up, and put her in neutral, then hi 4, it picked up with a light cliunk, it was fine after that, I went through all the gears, in every setting and it was fine. That was about three weeks ago, since then it has knocked twice litely going from reverse to drive and vise versa. Ive put maybe 200 miles on it since then and have used reverse a couple dozen times maybe, again, it clunked only two times and that was within a few days after the initial failure... Obviously, there are alot of experts on this board, I have looked at a few and you guys here are heads and shoulders above everything else I could find in the boards!!! I am still under warranty...What do the experts say?
Thanks!!!!
Regards,
Runester

Re: Momentary tranny failure...

hm... dunno what to say about this I think is why no one replied... if you have to drive it hard to get it to be more pronounced I'd do it. just no burning rubber or anything extreme so when you take it in you don't get any hassels... as far as I'm concerned mild offroading like semi-stomping it up a dirt hill should be fine in a civic let alone a full sized truck... granted I've never actually owned a civic I'd imagine them to be fine... I did actually own a focus and I can say I put that little sucker to the test and it handled it far better than my chubby titan I'm having tranny issues as well... thus the reason for being in this section fingers crossed it's a clogged filter or oil needs to be replaced I got like 38,000 almost and never once changed or serviced the tranny fluids/filters... if it's not those I probably need a new tranny LOL hope they won't want me to pay for it is all I can think of
