Re: best oil to use in my titan

My Nissan dealer used to use Penzol and switched to Castro Synthetic over a year ago. I don't know how it rates amongst the other synthetic oils but since my dealer uses it now for all their oil changes, I figure go for it.

Re: best oil to use in my titan

The dealer wanted to put synthetic or a blend in my Titan today when I took it in for it's oil change - he said Nissan has started at the first of the year recommending it....but I'm just concerned about it being at 32K and changing it .....but considering what he told me it would cost, for starters $50....I'm not sure if I want to do that yet....tough enough with a $70 tank of gas every week and a half or so....

Re: best oil to use in my titan

Here is a little information on oils that may be useful to everyone. I am linking this from my350z.com, but the information is good for this site also. If you have not performed a UOA (Used Oil Analysis) on the oil you run in your Titan, you really don't know what is best.

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=258663

I am still breaking in my engine as it now has 500 miles on it and I just performed my first oil flush and switched the oil to Pennzoil 5-30 dino oil basically because it was inexpensive and easy to come by.

I will be changing it again at 1,500 miles and then again at 2,500 miles This helps to make sure that any debris that might have been in the engine at assembly (how ever rare that might be) is flushed out of the engine and that everything seats properly before I switch to a synthetic oil.

Castrol Syntec European Formula, Pennzoil Platinum, Mobile 1, Amsoil, and Schaeffers 7000 oil have all shown very good results in VQ motors (I know these are not VK motors, but it is a good base to start from). This is where I will be starting off when I switch my Titan over to Synthetic.

I have a huge stock pile of the Castrol Syntec 0w-30 European Oil and will begin testing the UOA's @ 3,000 mile intervals. I will start a UOA thread here posting results.

I would like to encourage others to post their results and I will compile the results just like has been done on my350z.com.

my guess is that any really good oil can increase milage if it is really effective at reducing friction. the less friction between the piston rings and cylinder wall the easier everything moves hense better mileage. just a guess but logically its right

Re: best oil to use in my titan

i run M1 5/30 and change at 6-7K interval. I use either Pure-one, Purolator or Napa Gold (Wix) filters. I buy my oil at Walmart or Costco amd usually pay between $5-6 / quart.

50 isnt so bad, and it's over $100 for a tank of gas here. Just remember synthetic blend != synthetic. Buy the oil yoruself and pay them to change it it should be cheaper. Mobile 1 if need to purchase localy, but I use amsoil myself in everythign but my transfer case (mobile 1 in there).

Difference in MPG is negligable, you will save more gas coasting and not getting on the throttle.

I have a good contact for Amsoil at discounted rates and have done buisness with tihs guy since I purchased my titan. If you want a good contact send me a PM and I will gladly send you his onfo.
