Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

Dont take this this wrong way or anything but if you wanted gas mileage, buy a honda. I mean, what do you expect from a truck with a 5.6 liter. I put 91 octane and I drive my truck like I stole it and I dont complain bout the gas mileage. Once again, dont take this the wrong way. I hope I didnt offend anybody

Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

I get about 10-11mpg AEM air filter, Stillen exhaust 5-30 synthetic...Driving about 75-80 with a little driving around town (getting oiff the freeway and parking twice a day)

I get about 14.5-15.7 doing 60 on the freeway. Mostly freeway driving.

I now drive 5 miles under the limit alot and watch the tach (try to keep it under 2k). I just can't afford to pay my $600-$800 a month in gas. Driving 5 miles under takes my about 5 minutes longer to get to work, however, I only have to stop at the pump once per week which is a 20 minute savings. So it nearly balances out. This also saves me $200-$300 a month in gas. With gas approaching $4 a gallon this summer, I may have to sell my titan because my gas and insurance payments far exceed my monthly payments for the vehicle which is depreciating as fast as I pay it off due tio these crazy increases... I want to pay it off first maybe get some kind of commuter but I love owning a truck, I just don't need it right now because I have access to my Dad's 3500 4x4. My truck has only been offroad a few times now due to his trucks superior performance pulling a trailer. Put so much money into this thing and so much work on it I might just suffer with the mileage a little longer, just take my time getting to work....

I have the right to complaine, cause when I bougth my truck gas was only $2.56 a gallon. That was after it had shot up a buck over my college years already. I was tempted to get a car then, but needed something to haul my quad. Few months later my Dad bought a truck and my quad is stored at his place after my landlady kicked it out of her garage...

Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

You guys are a little harsh on the original poster. He is new to the truck game and is finding MPG sucks, and is dissapointed, that is all. Most of us knew however knew big trucks guzzles gas. That is how it is.

I have heard Titan's getting 17-18 mpg... not mine though, my 4x4 Big Tow package Titan gets consistently gets between 13.0-13.3 MPG.

Deisel is looking more and more attractive. 25 mpg with nothing hitched, and probably about 20 mpg when you tow 7000 lbs. The extra $6000 in cost up front will probably be recovered in about 3 years, depending how much you drive.

I'm not sure about that. You would have to add in the extra cost of diesel + the $6000. Even at 25 mpg it may turn out not to be a savings depending on how long you kept the vehicle & how many miles you put on it. If I have time today I'll put a pencil & paper to it to see if there is a savings.

Here is what I came up with. Current fuel prices here: $3.07 for 87 octane vs. $3.70 for diesel. I used an average driving of 10,000 miles per year. I figured an average mpg for the Titan at 13.5, and a realistic 20 for a diesel. Driving the Titan will cost about $424.30 more annually, so to make up the additional $6000 it will take you 14 years.

If you want to say that you would average 25 mpg in the diesel (I think that would be stretching it) it would take you about 7.5 years to make up the additional $6000.

Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

As far as fuel efficiency goes (or engine efficiency in general), has anyone done a comparison between using standard vs. synthetic oil in their Titan?

I changed to M1 Truck & SUV 5W-30 at 5000 miles. I'm over 7000 now & I have not seen a change in mileage.

Does not help much.

My Dads Dodge 3500 V6 Diesel gets about 18MPG, 12 MPG towing a trailer...Diesel is $3.80 a gallon, and the cheapest Gas around here without discounts is about $3.35, but usualy closer to $3.50-3.60 a gallon for 87.

(At $3.60 a gallon it's $100 for a tank of gas)...

In the next few months we are going to see $4.00 a gallon for gas...Diesel should go back down durring the summer.

So instead of buying a brand-new diesel buy a used "almost new/like new" one and then you wont have to deal with that additional 6 grand.

Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

All 3 of my 4X4's have averaged arround 14.5. (Heck, even my '02 FRONTIER 4X4 V6 only got 18) All 3 have been the OFFROAD/ Pro4X's. If you opt for the lower gearing of the OFFROAD or Bigtow, thats what you get. If I'm very light on the throttle, I might get 16. If I'm heavy on the throttle I get 13.5....... If Light on the throttle and drive my daily secondary road at 55 with cruise, I can get close to 17. I don't usually drive in the 17 MPG range. I love my BIG V8 and use it on the secondary to pass the PRIUS going 50MPH, and holding up all of the other traffic. I might get better mileage by just pulling up on their bumper, kick in the 4wheel and just drive right over, versus kicking it to pass. I keep my KIA as a yard ornament, as I just cant get myself back used to driving the "COMPACT" It may get a second lifethis summer.

Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

I've got a new '08 Armada. I get 11.7 mpg around town (driving VERY light footed) However on the Hwy I get 18. The only problem is most of my driving is around town. The window sticker did say 12 city 18 Hwy. Seems to be about right.

Wait till 87 hits $4 a gallon this summer, Ill bet you end up driving the kia to save $500-$600 a month in gas I know I would!

Re: Gas Mileage Sucks!

hey guys...found this thread pretty interesting...I'm in a situation with a diesel....I had 2 Titans....2005 that got totalled ....then I bought a new 2006 to replace that one....LOVE THE TITANS....

both of my Titans were lifted 6 inches with 315-70r17 BFG All-Terrains on them....highway mileage was about 13-15 and around town was about 10mpg...

So..last July I made the smart decision..."I thought" to switch back to a diesel truck....I had a diesel before I got my first Titan......

well...ever since...diesel fuel has been on the rise with no signs of stopping....

now I'm thinking about going back to a gas truck.....

I've got a bigger truck payment now for the "big rig" and mileage isn't worth the price of admission anymore......

I avg 18-19 mpg on the highway....15-16mpg around town.....

bottom line is guys.............the grass isn't always as green as it appears on the other side......
