Hooper's - Fact and Myth...Gears!

I had Columbus Day off today...It's nice to work for the City! Took a trip out to Hoopers Rear end service in Sun Valley and spoke to Anthony...Here's the poop:

They have in fact installed different gears in several Titans...They were a set of Dana's Super 44 R&P, and they've only done the 3:73's.
Althought Anthony couldn't remember every exact detail, what he said was to do the install the actual ring carrier has to be machined down, and then a spacer has to be machined for another part of the carrier or pinion. He's not sure if it would work with a set of 4:10's...

He said it's a mess in there(the diff) Nissan has had Dana make all sorts of changes to the basic Super 44.

He said no problem throwing in a TruTrac if retaining the stock gears...

No, I didn't ask what the cost would be for the speacial gear change, but he quoted about 150-175 for the TruTrac install....Very do-able

Re: Hooper's - Fact and Myth...Gears!

Scottyg267 I believe has his truck in this week for some gears. Here's the post he made on the price.I want to know if they have gears for the front. I only have 35's but would love to have 3.73's. I feel the gears with BT are too tall. When towing my trailer I have to tow at 60 or faster or else my tranny will start slipping.

That's what I mean to say. So you think the front diff. will be even harder to regeared?

In-correct, the clutch paks aren't programed to slip at all, there-fore there is no rpm that has to be met to fully lock them up.

So the with the conversion of the rear, are we able to run lockers and stuff from super Dana 44? Or just the gears?

No, Anthony said the carrier bearings were NOT Super 44, but rather like a GM 12 bolt size...Since the carrier has to be machined I'd say it's just gears for now.
All they've done is 3:73's, he said he's not sure if they could do 4:10's...

3.90 is the lowest you can go.

Usually they're pretty good about getting work done when they say so, but this is a truely custom job not just a swap-out of stock parts...
It's alway frustrating not getting your toy back when you expected it...even more so if you have to drive across the valley...
