2004 2wd with the offroad towing package. I know offroad package and only 2wd but yes it is. has 73,000 on it I bought it at 52k a year ago. Dealer did the transmission flush at 58K I noticed at 65K that the tranny was slipping once and awhile when starting out on a cold morning not everytime but enough to notice it. then it only happens in first gear. now however I am noticing it more and more. It does not happen when I use the manual shift mode even when cold nor when it is warm or in a higher gear only when using the automatic shift function. whats the fix? or is it on the way out?

Ok, I know its bad when a transmission slips but what is it? What are the symptoms of a "slipping transmission?"

when I let off the brake and step on the gas I get a sudden increase in rpm like it is in park or neutral then a hard engagement and forward motion. however not always sometimes I get a gradual engagement of the tranny then forward motion after a significant rise in rpm.

You hear the Engine RPM's increase, but don't get the normal Vehicle Speed increase. Can be a slight or very dramatic sound. It may make you think you slipped it into neutral by mistake, but you know you didn't. Needs to go to dealer or Trans shop ASAP to avoid damage. Check fluid level and color immediately.

That happened to me today when I went to the river. The 4LO would engage then it would disengage and the RPMS would go way up like I was in nuetral and then it would engage again and the 4LO light was flashing. Is transfer case slippage possible?

check your fluid level is where you need to start first. If not low or too full take in for service. could be a gummed up valve body or something simple or at least not real bad.

Better to have a Titan than a Loose'n
I think I would pay my money to have my tranny put on a computer and checked out. Doing a flush when the fluid does not smell burnt and the level is normal seems backward to me. I doubt your tranny has major problems but most likely a shift solonoid or other minor problem. Have it checked.

Is the fluid burnt? If it is doing what i think it may keep slipping so that it does it in each gear. Is it only under acceleration? This is when most of the load and slipping occurs and even at very light pedal. You probably will NOT get a check engine light. Go to the dealer and see what pulls up. Maby a CAN communication line code. Hopfully it is nothing, but go get it checked ASAP! Good luck
Here is the update to the problem I took it to the steeler who charged me $89 to drive it around with the computer hooked up to the tranny. he said I had a few codes latched up in the tranny and that he cleared them. also he checked for water in the lower harness which was one of the codes latched.
also said he noticed no slipping or any problems with any of the shift schedules. so here I wait to see what happens next. it seems to drive alright now but that could be my perception

Did you get a recipt with the codes listed? Post them up so we can take a look and help you out
uh hum, i hope its something easy to fix, I really hate to see this happen to the titan, i had a slipping problem, at first it seemed to just slightly slip at higher rpms, a real quick abrupted jolt, than over time it would start slipping and sometimes vibrate the whole truck. I hope its not that for you as it sounds your out of warranty. my trucks in the shop awaiting a new tranny and trans cooler and radiator because they found metal shavings in the tranny, I have 28,000 mi. maybe you can drain the tranny and investigate to see if your fluid is burnt, metal shavings etc....... good luck on getting that resolved.

I'd ask the dealer what they think about the attached since you didn't seem to have a problem until after the flush.
