I have a 2005 Titan Crew Cab 4x4 with the tow package. At 28k miles, the rear diff started locking during low speed turns. The dealer replaced the axle without even opening it.
They gave me the original axle and I had a friend check it out. He pulled the back cover and couldn't find anything out of place except for a few scratches on the rear cover.
This is a 2005 Dana with the tow package (Lower final gear ratio (3.357:1); similar to a 4-speed automatic 4.10:1 ratio) and electronic locker.
Anybody interested in this, send me a message. I am in the Buffalo, NY area.
I find it hard to believe that the dealership would give him his old rear diff back since it is under warranty. All warranty parts have to be shipped back to Nissan so they can check them out unless they don't call for it after 30 days. I call bluff......untill I see the pics anyways........

I've been a certified Nissan tech. for 5 years and I know for a fact that they can and will call for them. After 30 days thought they can be thrown out but not untill then. All Im saying is that we are required to hold the part for at least 30 days. If Nissan found out that the part was given to a customer the claim can be denied. Nissan doesn't want their parts to be resold if they had to pay for it to be replaced.

Well since Mike replied, I will too. The dealer must keep the part until the claim is paid, Not 30/60/90 days. Would Nissan care if they told a dealer to scrap a part and they sold it to rebuilder to use for exchange, yeah.. Give the part to a customer, as long as it wasn't for pending litigation, who cares.. But what do I know???

This is not a bluff. I asked the dealer for the old parts AFTER the warranty was processed. They called me after a few weeks to get it out of their way. They were even nice enough to put it in the original shipping crate!
As I do not have a large garage, I have it stored in a friends warehouse until I find it a new home...
