thanks for the info. before i hack away at this project i wanna make sure i got the location of this thing right. this whole evap thing is right behind the gas tank and what not. and i take it the 3 in 1 oil i can pick up at any auto parts store, and if it's what i was looking at the screws holding it in place are put in through the top? i found this weird and it made me believe that i was looking for something else? idk i'll pull it out and see what's up with it.
There should not be any screws holding it in. If you are under the truck from the back looking forward you will see the evap box, on the left side of the evap box you will see the valve. To verify you got the right one there will be a 3/4" hose coming off it going to a mount on the frame cross member. What ya gonna do is disconnect the hoses from the valve then turn the valve about a 1/4 turn and pull it out of the box there is an o-ring that will come out with it also make sure you put that back on the valve after you clean it. Take the valve and with a flashlight look inside one of the ports and you will see a metal shaft, get a small pick or something thin and pointy and scrape all around the shaft blowing it out with compressed air also. Then manipulate the shaft up and down till it is easy to move. Then take the 3 in 1 oil and put a drop or two on the shaft and manipulate it somemore, till it is moving good up and down. The 3 in 1 oil is those little metal cans that you would use on like door hinges. It's a very light oil. Then put the valve back and you should be good to go, It will probably last about a month or two or longer depending on the driving conditions ( dust ) Let me know how you make out.
thanks for the info, just cleaned it out tonight. i'm gonna get the filter kit soon and probably when i order that i'll just get a new valve and put it all on there together. does the filter kit help keep dust out of the valve? i'm assuming that's where all the dust is coming from is the 3/4 inch hose mounted up in the frame

How did the valve look inside? Was it pretty cruded up? Yes, the dust is going right in the tube down to the valve, Piss poor setup. It's a shame they are making people pay for this fix you would think the Govt. would get involved and have Nissan recall it because it is an emissions issue. The filter will keep the valve clean and working properly.
yea it was pretty bad and clogged up with dust and dirt. i ended up blowin it out with compressed air sprayin some wd40 in it and lettin it soak for a few seconds and then i blew that out and put the 3 in 1 oil on it. drove around today and the code didn't set off. so so far so good. i'm ordering the filter kit today and hopefully that'll take care of it. if not i'm gonna get the new valve as well.

also on most cars there is a metal flap where u put the nozzle in for filling up do titans come with this? because mine did not and i'm pretty sure that when this part becomes missing it usually means someone cyphened gas from you
My '07 doesn't have the flap and I doubt anyone has tried to siphon gas from me.

do not ever used a locking gas cap . use the factory
That's nonsense, my Stant locking cap has been on since December 2005 with zero problems.

im not saying there is 100% positive problem i work in the automotive industry and came from a hyundai dealer. had nothing but problems with locking caps , all aftermarket for that matter, but that could have been and issue with hyundai also
It's an issue with Nissans as well and all vehicle lines with this EVAP setup. I have seen it first hand. When we get a car/truck with a large EVAP leak code the first thing we check is if the gas cap is secure and/or if it is an aftermarket locking cap. 9 times out of 10 it is just a loose cap and 1 out of 10 is an aftermarket locking cap. Not saying that there aren't locking caps out there that work. It's just what I've seen.

i would say that is not if it is a locking gas cap or not. i bought two gas caps. one at the local auto parts store and one offline. the one i got from the auto store i checked the threads with my stock gas cap and it was entirely different so i took it back because it wouldn't fit on all the way. i ordered one from curtesy parts.com and it has the matching threads. and i can't imagine this one causing any problems. still no large evap leak from my truck since i cleaned the vent control valve.

It's not so much the threads on the cap as it is the way it seals. I think he's dealing with something other than the cap. Maybe the canister itself is leaking. Vent Control Valves don't usually set a Large EVAP Leak code but a Small EVAP LEAK code or a specific Vent Control Valve code.

This is the code that came up on me p0455. It could be a number of things, yes but the track record for these valves with no filter just trumps a gas cap.http://www.obd-codes.com/p0455
If the Evap Vent Control is bad, would this cause the fuel gauge to not read full after a fill up? I am just wndering if the system is not be pressurized correctly and throwing the gauge off.
My SES light has been on and the P0455 code is on there (I cleared it and made sure the factory gas cap is tight) then it popped back on a few days later, so I am pretty sure my 04 w 80k on it needs this valve and filter kit but I am just trying to see if this is related to my fuel gauge not reading full.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
The gauge not reading right usually means a bad fuel sending unit. The P0455 code usually means the vent control valve is bad. I don't think the filters work. I've had to still replace vent control valves even after the filter was installed.

finally got the vent control valve installed and got the filter kit put on. ever since install never got my ses light back on. checked it with my obd 2 scanner and it wasn't even on a pending code so that fixed the problem for sure. still have the stant locking gas cap. so the locking gas caps are obvious not the problem. lose gas caps would be. so for anyone who experiences this problem would probably try the gas cap first make sure it's tight. and if the problem continues it would deff be in the vent control valve. easy fix.
