A grave accident

Now, I bought my '05 titan, 47xxx miles, used, and decided to change the oil. While underneath, i went too the first thing that looked like an oil pan, unplugged it, got out from underneath, cleaned the plug, and went back underneath. by about this time, i noticed the fluid draining was red.

Anyways, i have some royal purple atf fluid laying around, and was wondering what the best, and cheapest way, to get the fluid level back up. is it alright to mix the fluids, or if its okay at all to use royal purple in the transmission at all, or if it would void the warranty.

Re: A grave accident

Um, you don't have much of a choice if your Titan is your only means of transportation. There have been many discussions in this and other forums regarding the use of non-Nissan ATF. In most cases the conlusion is that you should stick with the Nissan Matic-J fluid.

I don't know anything about the RP ATF. If it was me and all I had available was the AMSoil ATF I probably wouldn't think twice about it.

Re: A grave accident

Make sure you drained your tranny first. I bought a used titan and did the same thing. but turns out it was some kind of wierd sythetic oil the dealership used that was red in the engine. I filled it back up with Mobil 1 and have had no problems since. So check your dip stick and make sure you did not really drain engine oil.

Re: A grave accident

Trany pan is flat, oil pan is not. Trany pan is at the transmission and the oil pan is connected to the engine, pretty simple to tell the difference.

Until your warranty is done with stick with J matic. The RP or Amsoil will work fine to get you to the Nissan parts department but do another drain and fill with J Matic soon. Should take 4qts but buy 5 just in case.
