Improving throttle response

I had a 2004 LE 4x2 (Canteen) that was a great sounding truck right from the box. It also had great throttle response. After I sunk it at a boat ramp - don't ask - I replaced it with 2007 SE 4x4 (radiant Silver). This truck does not sound nearly as good, but what bothers me even more is the throttle response seems much slower and stickier than the 2004. What is the best way to improve this? I am thinking a cold air intake would be the best place to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Get the 2* timing advance done. That will wake it up.

X - Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know a qualified shop in the Western suburbs of Chicago - Lombard area ? Also, what should I epxect to pay? From what I've seen on this board it seems like a pretty cheap mod. Any negative effects on gas mileage or towing?

Ok, so I lied about getting over that part...

+1 on the 2° timing advance. Blow off the dealerships. They all charge an arm and a leg for it. You need to hook up with a fellow Titaneer with Cipher to do it for you for a nominal fee. Most will do it at a Titan meet for free. Check the Regional Forums for your area. There are meets going on all the time, especially in the summer.

There's also a thread "stickied" in the Performance Forums section about "Who can do the 2° advance in your area. Check that and see if there's anyone listed in there close to you. Don't pay a dealership.... really.....

Now, about that "Risky Business" move at the boat dock......

Is there anyone here in the western suburbs of Chicago willing to the 2* advance for me? I'd be happy to provide reasonable compensation for your for your time.

About the boat ramp...I was taking the boat out of the water after musky fishing. My son saw me stop on dry pavement but when I took my foot off the break it rocked back a few inches, just enough for the rear tires were under the water line. Once they started slipping on the slick algea, it did not stop until the only thing you could see was the sheet metal of the roof. Swam out to get my wallet and briefcase floating nearby. Believe it or not I was pulled out in about an hour and had the boat home an hour after that.

I should have left it in the driveway, as moving the Harley to make room I clipped my large toenail and popped it off (wearing sandals). Didn't hurt at all after the intial knee-bucking shock. Went out to dinner with my Dad and son, tried to sleep but no way - the throbbing was too much. Off to the emergency room. While being treated in the hospital, someone hit my car. Fortunately the left their info and their insurance covered it.

Moral of the story? Use 4WD at the boat ramp. Sure do miss that 2004 Canteen King Cab, though.

The '07-'08's are more sluggish even when compared 2* - 2* for some reason. Must have something to do with the new ECU handling VVT or something.

Well suddenurge did the 2* advance for me, definately improved the throttle response. Much better. I have only drive 1/2 a tank since and the mileage was 13 mpg, better than the 12 or so I have been getting. A full tank of running may find me closer to 14, or perhaps that is wishful thinking.

What's next for throttle response / general performace improvement, a CAI or nex exhaust? I think I've heard the CAI may cuase MAF problems.

CAI and exhaust! A CAI will only cause trouble if you get an oiled filter and over oil it.

Awesome that you got the 2* done!!!! Like Zach said, CAI and Exhaust are your next $$$$. I'm pretty sure the new Volant is a dry filter and if you need time to save up the $$$$, the AirBox Mod is a very nice teaser that gives an idea of what a CAI will do and it's free.

Pops, thanks for sending him my way. The airbox mod is nice and free, but it really doesn't come close to the gains of a CAI. I ran 15.3-15.7 at the track with the airbox mod and Amsoil performance drop-in. Added a CAI last July and track times dropped to 14.85-15.10 depending on weather conditions. Both comparisons were done with a 18" Magnaflow muffler swap.

That's why I meant "teaser" because it's not as good as a CAI but it's a nice step up from stock and it's kinda like a Mini-Lift where once you feel the difference, it makes you want to save up the $$$ for more and get the real deal.
