Thumbs down Synthetic Oil in Titan

Hi, I had my 08 in to the dealership and they tell me not to put full synthetic in because it will cause leaks. Anyone had a problem with Mobile1 in their truck? I don't want to create problems but sure want to switch if I can. Only have 7500 miles on the truck and plan to keep it a good while (especially since the value is dropping as I write this).

Re: Synthetic Oil in Titan

That is a common myth. Please refer to the Mobil 1 website for the debunk or their feel good speech. You should break the truck in initially with dino oil, then you can switch over to synthetic later.

I have used mobil syn in my 05 but the syn that recommend is Royal Purple. My last long drive from Birmingham, Al to Knoxville,tn and back netted 19.75 miles per gallon. Heading to East Texas today. No mods just factory stuff with 132,000 miles.

Re: Synthetic Oil in Titan

50K miles and no leaks so far. I've used Mobil 1 for years and never had a problem in any of my vehicles. Right now it's in my truck, my wife's car and my son's car. None of them leak.

Re: Synthetic Oil in Titan

Just over 40K on my '07 and have had Mobil 1 in it since the first oil change. No leaks.

As someone has already stated, it is a common myth that synthetic oil will leak.

Re: Synthetic Oil in Titan

I'm waiting until about 18K to 20K to switch to Mobil 1. I want to make sure the engine is good and broken in. Neither myself nor anyone else can make a fact based claim that switching to synthetic earlier would do any harm. To each his own.

Re: Synthetic Oil in Titan

That's one of those myths that uninformed 'mechanics' perpetrate...it's BS.

Synthetic oil is better, ALWAYS. (Well, after the motor is broken in)

It will not cause leaks.

...

e.g...I have ~126,000 miles on the motor in my 240SX...and it's been making close to 2.5 times the stock power for the last ~35,000 miles...most of those miles on the track. I've always used Mobil 1 in it, and there's no leaks.

...so if my ~12 year old motor that gets BEATEN ON every time I drive it has no oil leaks, using synthetic...it's a pretty sure bet that your factory fresh VK56 will be just fine.

Synthetic oil will destroy your truck.

Avoid it like the plague!!!!

Re: Synthetic Oil in Titan

It will not cause leaks and you can use syn oil starting at the first oil change, just use the recomended oil weight. Hell for that matter you can use syn at 0 miles. It's a better lubricant and doesn't require a engine to be broke in. That is another myth that has to be shot down.
