Re: Engine Whistles

have the tech, and this may be redundant , but put it on a lift and do it again. use screwdriver, stethascope to listen to pullies and also intake manifold, also remove and remplace the air filter and tighten all clamps. the noise is coming from the intake plumbing prior to the mass, you can also at idle use starter fluid to spray prior to mass to see if engine revs up, if so leak, if there is a leak past the maf it would cause a miss of hesitation. what happens when you power brake in reverse or in neutral? did the advisor use a squeak and rattle form? for the tech. on a scale of 1-10 how loud is the whistle with the windows up? when did it start happining?

Re: Engine Whistles

Mine whistles about 1800 rpm's. I have read in previous tread it is the vacuum system. I like to hear it whistle personally. It mostly occurs while my cruise is on while the engine is under a light load (like going up a small hill).

Re: Engine Whistles

OK Blue wookie here is an update for you. Yes it does occur in reverse and drive. Do not think a form has been filled out. On a scale I would say when it is happening it is a 9. Cant miss it.

If it is a vacuum leak is there a recall from Nissan???

Re: Engine Whistles

then that means that that it is either vaccume or intalke related, but it is not normal, as along and there is not mods, there may be a fix or a tsb pertaining to this issue. get the service adivser to fill out a squeek and rattlel form . it is a legal binding document and the tech assiginged has to folloe up withe it to nissian. if the dealer ship refuses then call 1800nisssan1 and file a complaint. a good tech can diag this prob. but that depends on the dealer ship, good look it will take a little pursusion to get it resolveld. be persistant dont take no for an answer or it is just normal

Re: Engine Whistles

If you can drive it in "D" on the street (at speed) and also powerbrake it in "D" and "R" and hear the whistle but not in "P" or "N" then is it possible that it is a transmission problem and not an engine problem? At the very least I would check the transmission fluid and after that I would change out the transmission fluid. While Nissan doesn't say exactly when to change the transmission fluid I will be changing my transmission fluid out at 40K due to towing and some minor offroad situations. There is a great DIY thread here somewhere that shows how to completely change out your own transmission fluid.

Re: Engine Whistles

I have a 2005 LE crew cab, currently with 32,000 miles. I bought it with 23,000 last January. Right after I put the drop-in K&N air filter in the OEM air cleaner Mine started to whistle, but I only hear it under acceleration. I just figured it was due to the extra air flow. I'll have to put the original paper filter in to see if it goes away.

Re: Engine Whistles

increased air flow will cause some more intake noise but not a whistle.a whistle is caused by air flow by sharp corners, spacers, cold air intakes, but not stock air intakes, if it is in the trans it would be felt as well as heard. as well as replacing trans fluid, if towing full flush at 30k if no towing drain and fill at 30k then flush at 60k. since it is heard in d and r, check and tighten all clamps prior to mas, also remove and reinstall air filter, make sure air silencer box is connected correctley. make a teck or advisor or manager or qc person go for a ride with you, so that you can point out the concern.......whistle is not normal! i have never heard one in a stock titan,,, and i have been in a few.

I bought my bone stock 05 Titan about 2 months ago and it whistled under light throttle around 1800-2000rpms from day one. Im very certain its coming from the intake somewhere. Recently I custom fabbed a cone filter onto the stock intake and it got alittle louder. Also, my best friend used to own an 05 and his whistled too. There seems to be no negative effects from it other than a turbo like sound. Not sure what all the fuss is about. I think it sounds cool.

Re: Engine Whistles

I know it has been a long time since I lasted posted with an update. Sorry if you dont hit send the message will never make it. I belive to have eliminated the issue. Behind the throttle body is a gasket. The top half is a medal mesh type material. It was dirty I cleaned it all off and the whistle stoped. I replaced the gasket and the problem is gone. I hope that if anyone else has this issue that it helps

I'll check that out, mine started whistling a few days ago and it was making me nuts trying to pin it down.

All other gears the issue goes away. I took to the dealer to have them look at it and after four days of them looking at it they have no clue. They want me to pay 95 bucks an hour until they find the issue since Iam only under the Nissan extended warranty. The only thing the dealer eliminated was the air box and intake hose. Any one else having this problem?? Any one know what I can do to fix it??

I think that created the whistle in my case.
Are you sure you don't have a turbo?

what makes that whistle noise is you INTAKE MANIFOLD. Its very common on the 2004-2006. nothings wrong with the whistle. in some occasions the 2004-2005 the Intake Manifold will crack the whistle may indicate in some you wanna check your intake manifold with the dealer because that whistle noise ends up becoming a crack in the Intake Manifold. TRUST me i kno i had a 2005 Titan and it did that whistle and the dealer replaced the Manifold.

Re: Engine Whistles

Having a whistle is normal? My 2005 doesn't have it, so I guess it's abnormal. IMO, any type of whistle would indicate a leak somewhere from the air intake box, throttle body or intake manifold. Any type of air leak is not good. The only other explanation would be that someone installed a TBS before you owned it.
