04 titan repetitive noise at low speed?

I have a 04 titan 4x4 with ~65k miles on it.

Stock.

Lately I have been having a repetitive noise at low speed. It reminds of gear whine, but only happens part of a tire or drive shaft revolution. It is completely dependent on speed, not RPM.

It sounds like a...

"whoo.... whoo....whoo...whoo....etc" The whoo's obviously get closer with the faster you go.

Any ideas on what this could be? Dreaded rear end about to blow?

What is the cost of a new rear for just parts since I do my own labor?

Thank you in adv!

Could be a wheel bearing, differential or transfer case also. If you put the entire Titan up on jacks and then put it in drive and keep the RPM's low you might be able to find the exact source.

Mine does that too. I thought it was from the wheel spacers but isn't. Let me know what you find out. My bet is a wheel bearing.

I say tire or wheel bearing. As tires age and wear, they start making a whooing noise, but usually it's a fairly constant whooing and more noticeable at 30 MPH and under.

Check for the easiest stuff first. Rock or nail in your tire.

Re: 04 titan repetitive noise at low speed?

It is a tire. Probable front end alignment prob. Mine has done this a couple of times. New tires and it all goes away. Also, rotate your tires will help.
