Axle shaft pulled out on passengers side up front today. 77,000+ so truck is out of warranty. Apparently there is no fix except a whole new front differential. Service guy said they used to just fix the axle shaft with a new c-clip but then Nissan redesigned the whole thing so now you have to buy the whole front diff etc. $1700 total to fix.
I had the service manager pull my records today. This was visit #23 since 2004.

I would investigate that situation some more before
I spent $1700. Sometime dealers make "mistakes"

That sounds like the dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you. I would take it to a local "trustworthy" mechanic since you are out of warranty for a second opinion
Funny, mine said the same thing, yet Courtesy Nissan shows a parts breakdown of the front final drive with what appears to be full availability. I called mine on it and now they are looking for a new carrier instead of the entire final drive assembly. If they don't play it will be off to the State Attorney General and a then a part recycler and a independant shop or I will shed some sweat and do it myself. I know sales aren't good but raping us in the service department is not making me want to head out to Nissan and buy another one of their products and certainly not from my once reputable dealership.
Like I said, the dealer allegedly stated he used to just replace a few parts for this problem up until recently when Nissan re-designed something or other forcing you to replace the whole works. In the past 23 visits this dealer has been fair to me, although I am a little skeptical like some of you also.
I called a second Nissan dealer in the area yesterday and got another opinion. He told me the same thing as the other dealer. Apparently they used to just change the shaft and put in new c-clip, but that didn't work and the customers kept coming back to have it repaired. He told me the same thing as the first dealer--Nissan redesigned the whole front differential and now recommends replacing the whole thing.
Something tells me Nissan never put this truck through R & D testing very well. The rear end, front end and brakes and numerous other issues would have showed up well before the product was released to market.

That's fine if it is covered by warranty, but Nissan should have
repair parts available for those out of warranty & the owner
would rather try to repair than replace.........sounds like
more Nissan BS............but may not be too surprising with
the Nissan Titan near end of production.........repair parts
may become more of an issue no matter what regulations say.
same issue here. I have 99K miles. My turn. Quoted $1500 for the fix by the dealer. I've tried the Nissan experiment and I can say this is my last Nissan. Back to GM I go.

warranty is longer than the titan. in my case i rack about 5k to 6k miles a year, i will be way out of warranty when all these problems start appearing.
I truly believe there is a difference in engineering though. First the brake issue, then the wet passenger side floor boards, the axle seals, rear tail shaft seal, front drive shaft/diff seal. Where did they test this thing during development the mall? Nissan probably has this stuff worked out by now but wow, to the market to early. A buddy of mine worked in the R&D facility and claims Nissan has "counter measures" (or engineering fixes to known issues) in a lot of the 06 and 08 driveline.
