IMO going 15mph over the speed limit in town is probable cause to ask to look in the vehicle. That is a substantial amount over the speed limit, especially on the July 4th with a lot of people are drinking and driving. On the HWY it may be seen different, doing 70 in a 55 with everyone else. One thing I have been told by friends that are LEO is to never let them search your vehicle without a superior onsite. Never let two patrol officers do the search, always have a comander, seargent, captain or what ever onsite. You can make the request, don't be an asshat about it either. If you have nothing to hide fine, still have a superior. If you have soemthing to hide, refuse the search. You have a 50/50 chance they won't try for a warrant. Search with or without a warrant your in trouble either way so you might as well make them earn their money.

Doesn't seem to me that she (the officer) did anything wrong. Typically, they deal with people all day who are none too happy to see them. Given your dialogue with her, it seems that your attitude may have prompted her to be short with you.
VASCAR is most certainly how she clocked you as far as I can tell from your story. Going to court is your best option. I have had 2 tickets and both times I went to court. I pleaded guilty with explanation because I was guilty of speeding. One time the cop didn't show and it was dismissed. The other time, the judge appreciated the fact that I admitted to speeding, heard my explanation and cut the points and fine in half. Well worth going in my opinion. Both times I git whacked with a stalker vehicle specific radar - might have to invest in one of those Valentines
FWIW, I have asked on both occassions to see the radar - in Maryland, it is against the law for the officer to show you. Not sure of the specifics, but I even asked the judge in court. He said it is not permitted for the officer to show you the radar. Not sure if this is a national law or just a state law.

i would understand it that they cannot show you the radar, but if you ask to see the calibration logs, they can show you them, or they can insist that you will see them in court.

Speeding is NOT probable cause for a search, no matter what day or time it is. If they search without a warrant no matter what they find will not be admissible in court. I will never ever let someone search my vehicle again. I hope if you submit to a search they don't take your truck apart on the side of the road and leave it like that when they pull away, like they did to me. And when I say tore apart, I mean they pulled the door seals, rear seats, carpet, and emptied my trunk.

just incase you get bad one, you know the type. the young rookie looking to make a name for himself or a scumbag. I have had the pleasure of dealing with both and beat'em pretty bad in court. Only if allow a search without a warrant or uh you get pulled over with a bud longneck in your hand your kinda hosed anyway.

You don't need a warrant to search a vehicle if there is probable cause. Pretty easy to find probable cause (any smell of alcohol, weapons, expired/suspended license, marijuana smell etc). If you refuse, you would probably get arrested for resisting also (in addition to possible use of force). Evidence is only suppressed when there was no probable cause for the search. Lots of misadvice. If you have nothing to hide, usually best to go with it and handle issues after the fact (complaint etc). The cop generally has the upper hand and you could dig yourself in a huge hole.

The cop has to have probably cause (and he had better be able to prove it), and since I don't do drugs, or drink and drive there is no probable cause in my vehicle. My gun is none of his business, and is out of sight. Also my camcorder is recording the entire event, so if he oversteps his bounds by one inch I will do everything in my power to make sure he never works in law enforcement again, and I will sue the city, county, and the state.
BTW I have a friend that makes his living by driving around in his car that is wired for sound and video and waits to be pulled over. He makes more per year than I do.

How often do you get pulled over? Most law abiding citizen very rarly if ever get stopped. Honestly it sounds like you have the law all figured out, good luck too you. As for your friend, he sounds like a great person.

That all depends on where you are and how you look, oh yea, and the type of officers you have in your area. I used to get pulled over all the time when I was young and I rarely went over the speed limit. They'd lie and say I was speeding 5-miles over or that I was swerving when I was on my way to or from work because I worked the night shift. Sometimes they'd just write a warning and others I'd take probation to get out of it. The director of DOT called me in and we had a quite heated discussion about the corruption I was facing against with the smaller town cops where I lived. He basically told me I needed to start driving 5-miles under the speed limit and he told me to meet with him again if I got pulled over while 5-miles under. I moved out of the suburb that I was living in and didn't get pulled over from then on.
