make speedo stop working?

So I got popped on the 4th for speeding at 11pm... officer was real pain...

P: where are you going
Me: Home
P: Where have you been
M: Home.
P: so you left you home to go home, how much have you drank tonight
M: Yes, i have too home, Nothing.
P: Oh i c, And how much have you had to drink.
M: nothin... why was a swearving or do you smell alcohol.
P: Oh no.. just asking.
M: ah...
P: Liscens, reg, and insurance.
M: Here you go
P: So whos car?
M: Mine says so on the regestation, or did i hand you the wrong paper work.
P: I can see that
M: Ah....
P: Whos is that
M: My wife why?
P: just seeing who im dealing with..
M: Oh ok...
P: whats that stuff in the back.
M: Two kids, and crap from the lake.
P: Oh will i need to see back there
M: Why?
P: Beacse i ask to, I can get a warrant..
M: wtf fine but you not going to find anything.

Open the hatch.... she look around
P: Oh so there is just pool stuff back here? I thought you where coming from the lake..
M: I am Lake has a pool..
P: oh so these are lake toys or pool toys.
M: There water toys, you can use them in the bathtub, lake pool, any place that has water... So why did you stop me..
P: Oh um i have you going 50 in a 35...
M: Oh.. ok..
P: get back in your car.
M: ok......

She walks back up.

P: so how long have you had this,
M: sense july 05
P: Hum... i says its a 06
M: it is.. got a early one
P: oh... well then i need to look at the vin.
M: ok... ( mean time the kids are screamig in the back)
p: so is there a problem back there.
M: Yea its now 11:30, you woke them up and they are 3 and 5 years old.
P: Well i cant hear you with them screaming.
M: oh.
P: turn you steering wheel and let me look at your tires...
M: What?
p: i said turn your steering wheel so i can see your tires.
m: Ok, they are new..
P: I c that, check all you signals for me..
M: ok
P: Do you high beams... ( then she walks around the hole car looking at every little thing)
P: ok...well set tight.

walks back to her car... took 15-20 minutes to write out 1 speeding ticket. Brought it back to the window said sign this...

Whats strange is,
1) i have a valentine 1, (actully one in each car) its hard wired so when the car is on its on... it never went off at all.
2) It was raining, which i thought that messed up radar
3) When she passed me i glanced down and the speedo was shoing 40 mph... Know its the forth and the is one of the main streets in town i bumped the cruise on... well about 3 miles later she run up on me like a race car then his the lights and siren .
4) she called 3 cars for back up.. but they never got out of there car.
5) the ticket doesent say radar or lazer... its blank.. and she didnt have time to pace me, as soon as head lights where in view she hit the lights.

I havent had a ticket sence 1992 and i drive 50K miles a year. So its not a huge deal... I just feel like she is making this crap up beacuse it was almost mid night on the fourth. At the same time i dont want the 3 point do to how much i drive...

So is there a speedo cable that can be unplugged from the bottom of the car? or any other way to make the speedo stop so nissan can fix it

I'd say with your attitude you deserved the ticket..

If you have AAA I think they do a free speedo test if your a member.. at least make sure it's off as you think it is. If you unplug the cable Nissan will see that and plug it back in, say things are fine.

That is why I have a camera in my car, and I never let a cop look inside my vehicle. My camera will show the speed of my car, and then I can go to court and show that the cop is a liar. Then that cop will have a hard time ever going to court again, and having any credibility.

She probably didn't clock you. I'd just plea not guilty and go to court. Personally, I asked to see the radar the one time that I got pulled over by a OHP who was lying about me speeding (happened to be a female). She wouldn't let me see it and wrote me a ticket anyway so I pleaded not guilty, went to court, she didn't show, so I didn't have to pay.

haha I was thinking the same thing.

You should either fight it or you could do the 4 hour driving school online and then the points would be gone.

you said your tires are new...did you get over sized? 1 step up can adjust your speedo upto 10 percent, so 40 on your speedo would be 44, and 45 would be almost 50.

FWIW, my 33's are dead on synch with the GPS speed. 35's might be a little off but I wouldn't guess by more than a couple MPH at 65.

thanks pops, i was just thinking that the tires may be a reason why the speedo is off. otherwise i think the cop was just looking for something to ticket on and she could fight it because there is not clocked speed on the ticket its self.

fight it, goto court and deal with it and maybe have to pay any way.
or
pay it, pay it and get it over with. either way its going to be a pain in the *** no matter what option you choose.

VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer And Recorder) is a vehicle speed measuring system that computes speed from two variables, distance target vehicle travels and the time it takes to travel that distance. Distance can be measured using the patrol vehicle odometer (the VASCAR computer is connected directly to the odometer), or entered from a keyboard inside the patrol vehicle.

Unlike many Police Radar Guns, the basic operation of VASCAR has the officer visually select any two landmarks (utility pole, crosswalk, sign, etc.), determine distance between landmarks (already known or measured with patrol vehicle odometer), and measure the time it take a target vehicle to travel between landmarks (push a button when target passes each landmark). VASCAR radar can be used by a stationary or moving patrol vehicle. In moving mode distance between landmarks is determined on the fly by the officer pushing a button when passing each landmark.

VASCAR radar has an advantage over microwave radar (most Police Radar Gun) and laser radar in the fact that a radar has to be close to the road, while VASCAR can be close to or far from the road. The operator only has to see vehicles pass between landmarks, making VASCAR more flexible (easier to hide patrol vehicle) Police Radar Guns. Also VASCAR does not transmit (microwaves or laser infrared signals) and does not alert a driver equipped with a radar detector.

Yea my typing sucks lol...

The tires are stock 265-70-18's just went from the continals to firestones.

I know in va we have that vascar on the highways, and the painted lines, But in town im not sure how that would work.

Anyway i think she was just looking for something to do because she had the late shift. Im sure i was speeding a little bit up 50 in a 35 seems a little far fetched.

Ill keep you posted on what goes down.

OK a bit off topic but sort of related question.

Officer Fife stops you for speed. Says 'I need to see in your car, I can get a warrant.' Based on what?

I know state laws vary, but sounds like harrassment to me. 'Let me look in your car for no particular reason or I'll detain you here all afternoon.'

And what about when cops ask (again, based on nothing in particular) 'got any guns, drugs, hand grenades in your car?', you say 'No?!' and they ask 'mind if I look?' When is it your right to tell them to FO and go away? You stopped me for speed, you gave me a ticket. Am I under arrest for something or what?

Any LEO's or lawyers out there wanna take a swing at this?

I'm pretty sure any LEO has the right to search your vehicle if they have probable cause ( which pulling you over for speeding ) would be it.

good point.

Ive been stopped for drugs when i had that mercedes G500, officer was cool as can be. walked up to the window ask how i was, then ask what kind of suv this was, ( i had all the emblems removed) i told him a mercedes and he said oh its nice, well the reason we stopped you was for window tint but i dont care about that. We are looking for a black land rover / range rover that should be here today. We had a tip on a drug delivery and your suv fit the discription of a big black suv... Have a nice a day.

That car had limo tint, beadlocks, and no front tag...
