Re: Royal Purple vs. Amsoil

Also my 20k mile tranny fluid change was a waste, my fluid coming out looked brand new not a hint of burn or used fluid. I got the truck with 14k miles and am debating if the dealer changed it before I bought it, the fluid was honestly that clean. I just cant imagine a dealership changing the tranny fluid at 14k miles for a used car sale.

I concur, and run the following fluids.

1. differential gear oil M205: Royal Purple 75W-90 (75W-90 meets and actually exceeds all 80W-90 specs), changed at 36K, and will change at when an ARB locker is installed (hoping March 2010).

2. differential gear oil rear M226: Royal Purple 75W-140, changed at 40K when an ARB locker is installed, will change at 70k.

3. automatic transmission fluid: Nissan Matic S, drained and change at 36K, will flush at 60k; Nissan Matic "S" replaced Nissan Matic "J" (J is no longer produced).

4. transfer case fluid: Nissan Matic D, drained and change at 36K, will flush at 60k.

5. radiator: Peak Super Cleaner & Flush, Peak 50/50 Coolant, with Royal Purple Purple Ice Super Coolant Additive, flush at 36K, will flush again at 70k.

6. engine oil: synthetic, I run a 5W-30 all year around, and like Royal Purple, but will buy Pennzoil Platinum if on a good sale, change it religeously every 5,000 miles. I'm flexible with filters, will usually buy a good make on sale.

I'm torn between Amsoil highly talked about by all titantalkers, and Royal Purple highly talked about by all of my gear head buddies.

I looked up pricing for both for ATF syn for the trans and 75w140 and 75w90 oils it's all about the same.

Any input is appreciated.
mcclintock89, good to see another "Normal" person here. I grew up in Lexington and lived in Normal from 1977 to 1981 in a house on Linden Street. My wife graduated from ISU.

Here is a good undisputed report comparing several brand name gear lubes with several standardized ASTM test methods and blind samples performed by a world renown independent laboratory published by AMSOIL. https://www.amsoil.com/products/gear...spx?zo=1181889 . If you are interested, I can get you wholesales prices.

Re: Royal Purple vs. Amsoil

I recently switched all my fluids over to Amsoil. Transmission fluid, front diff, transfer case, rear diff, engine oil and Amsoil oil filter as well. I'm at ease now.
