3.36 Gears

I have a 2004 Titan with the non-big tow gears and I would love to upgrade to big-tow gears. I found a 2005 Titan rear axle with the 3.36 gears for sale and the axle housing is damaged where the bearings set. If I wanted to purchase the gears only and put them in my rear axle what parts along with the gears would I need to do this and is the damage to the axle housing an issue that would discourage you from purchasing these gears?

Thanks

Re: 3.36 Gears

You can get new carrier bearings, and you would need a new pinion seal and crush sleeve...and a new inner pinion bearing, and I would replace both pinion bearings if it was me...

As far as should you run them, I would have to see it with my own eyes, or in your case have a local trusted rear end shop check out the donor rear end...

I would REALLY do everything you can do to get a T/Trac to replace the diff to replace the weak troublemaking spyder gears...even if you have to wait a couple months to gather up the scratch...

Re: 3.36 Gears

don't forget to reflash your ECU if you plan on stepping up, otherwise your cruise control won't work

Re: 3.36 Gears

Why 3.36 ratio, IMO this jump is small and yields little benefit...almost seems like a waste of time and money? With those 35's I'd run 4.10 gears from Superior Axle & Gear which will give significant results, all the tow benefit your heart desisres and you'll be crusing just fine on the highway. I paid $425 delivered for my 4.10's which included the install kit (bearings etc) and spacer. Next to be released by Superior are 4.10 and 4.56 gears for the M205 front dif, targeted market date is March 2010...I'm anxiously awaiting so I can get back on the trail!!
