How To Replace Headlight Bulbs

There is a easy way to get to the headlight bulbs to replace them.
1. First, remember to not touch the glass on the bulbs. Doing so may cause early failure of the bulbs. I use clean white cotton gloves when installing the bulbs.
2. Turn the steering wheel all the way to one side.
3. Look in the fender well at the plastic liner. Directly behind the headlight you will find a Phillips screw. This screw is in a recess in the fender liner. Remove this one screw.
4. The fender liner can now be easily pulled back to get access to the bulbs from the bottom.
5. Disconnect the wiring plug from the bulb.
6. The bulb can now be rotated to remove.
7. Reverse the procedure to install the new bulb.

Re: How To Replace Headlight Bulbs

Here is a few shots I took while putting in some sylvania silverstars of the screws that needed to be removed on a '05 titan and shots of the blinker and lowbeam on the driver's side.
The passenger side is the same, just mirrored.

This can be a tricky one, but, once you do it, it's like riding a bike....

Re: How To Replace Headlight Bulbs

Indeed, the few things I found to be the real tricky that might get someone caught if they have never done it is getting the bulbs in and locked back into place properly, getting them out is easy, but it took a few attempts on each bulb to get the socket flat and level, if not it turns hard and does not quite lock in, and you can see the funny angle of the bulb when you get infront of the truck. Also keeping the bulb clean while putting it back in, remembering to wear latex (or non latex if you are alergic) gloves and I cleaned the bulbs even though I had not touched the low beams, just to make sure they would have nothing on them to create a hot spot, I just used rubbing alcohol and a soft lint free cloth to clean them.

Thumbs up Re: How To Replace Headlight Bulbs

great thread... i did mine in about 30 minutes total. only need to remove two screws on the fender liner. also, it's easier to remove the plug from the high beams if you do it from above. bulbs only need to rotate 1/8 of a turn to the right, so just make sure all three tabs are seated correctly before turning new bulbs back into position.

Yeah, if you install Silverstars you get to do it often. They don't last for S**t You will get good at replacing them.

Re: How To Replace Headlight Bulbs

If you don't mind me asking, what is the product number of the Silverstars that you installed? Are there any alternatives to the Silverstars that I can buy at my local AutoZone, AdvancedAuto, NAPA, etc.? I don't much like the low luminescence of the stock headlights and I'm wanting something brighter. But, I'm not going to buy the HID kit from China because it doesn't bother me that much.

Re: How To Replace Headlight Bulbs

I installed Silverstar Ultras for high and low beams in my Titan. Highs are 9005 and lows are 9006. I don't have fog lights so I'm unsure of what to use for them. I actually bought mine from eBay and saved an a**load of money. I spent the same amount for both pair with shipping as one pair costs at Pepboys and similar. Pepboys was actually running a $20 rebate per pair for a while. Check their website and see if they're still offering it.

I will say that these bulbs are much whiter and fairly brighter than the stock halogens but really pale in comparison to the HID kits everyone is clamoring over. Silverstar Ultras are perfectly fine for me though. I don't need to see through things or scar the retinas of oncoming motorists as I scorch the roadways with Chinese HID photon cannons.

Lastly, it really is as easy as everyone says to change your bulbs. It took me less than 15 minutes for both sets. Good luck!
