Straps on bed extender

On each side of the bed extender is a strap. On the end of the strap is a buckle with a post on it. What are these for?

Also for those of you with carseats in your CC, what's the trick to getting the seatbelt to lock? I have a infant carseat base in my truck and it doesn't seem like the seatbelt locks the seat in place.

Stick the buttons into the tailgate latches until they click. The straps keep the extender from bouncing up and down. To release the straps just pull the tailgate release handle.

All set with the carseat too. Just read the manual...good idea huh??? Found out about the "locking mode" for the carseat.

Pull the seatbelt out as far as it goes which puts it into a locking mode. This keeps the carseat right in place.

One more point: if the buckles are inserted into the tailgate, locking the tailgate with your key locks the buckles in place. This prevents the bed extender from being stolen short of cutting the straps, which would be easy but it's still a deterrent.

Also, with the tailgate up and locked, the bed extender can't be stolen b/c the tailgate has to be down for the extender to be removed. That's why I always keep my tailgate locked.

The bed extender can be taken out if it's locked, right? Just the brackets in the channels can't be taken out.

ya if you release it from the brackets it can be stolen. You just wont have the brackets to go with it.

With your carseat, do you not have LATCH? Your truck is equipped with LATCH and if your careseat is newer than I believe Sept '02 it should also.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I don't have the Utili-Track. With the non-sliding bed extender, it can't be removed with the tailgate locked, short of removing the brackets.
