I picked up this M&P 9mm a few days ago, and wanted somewhere to keep it while in the truck. ITs to big to leave on my hip or CC and sit in the truck seat comfortably, so now it has its own home.

I started out with a trip to the local gun shop. I lucked up and found this holster for less then half price, because it was a bring back.

This holster is perfect, and if you can find this brand for your handgun, it may work for you to. This is the hardest part. finding the holster that will work.

The reason this one is so perfect is because it is a two piece adjustable holster.

Remove three screws and you get this.

the next step is to see where you want the gun mounted. I put it all the way forward, with a slight angle to the rear. this seemed to feel the best to me. I outlined the holster some so once i got to the work bench, i would know where to put the template. I then removed the console liner, and moved over to the work bench.

Next i used some cardboard to make a template. Marking and cutting out the holes so i could line it up

I used a punch tool to mark the center of the holes, then a small drill bit to start the holes. The plastic is pretty soft so i was able to just spin it by hand to drill them. If you look again at the holster. The screw holes have metal sleeves, and you need to drill wide enough for those to fit inside the holes.

I started with this.

then drilled out larger to fit the sleeves.

Then you just mount it up. and reinstall the console liner.

From my research, as long as it isn't loaded, you're good to go. It's got to be in a locked container, so the center console checks out, actually. That's the way I read it on the .gov website, at least. :teethmast

Where are you in SD, btw?

Great idea. I like it

So do I. My brother has a similar setup in his T for his .40. It's on my 'list' to install one for either my LCP, or maybe my Kimber.

Sure is nice to be able to have a Concealed Weapons permit! :eyebrow:

Great write up man, I need to do the same. Only problem is I rotate pistols, suppose I could stick to one when I drive the black Titan. I use the Black Hawk holsters as well and like them. Light weight, not too bulky perfect for CC people. Just make sure when you buy one the screws aren't cross threaded. I had to exchange a couple at Academy Outdoor because of that issue. The screws are pretty small and fine thread. Great job man..!!

Great mod, a lot better than having it loose in the console.

Only problem is I rotate pistols
Could you mount something like a 3" piece of belt to the console, then your holsters can hook onto it? Not as sturdy as directly mounting the holster, but it allows you to swap out different guns as long as the clip is on the same side of the holster

So, I'm finding more and more military guys who don't like the Blackhawk Serpa holsters, due to the failure of the retention system at inoppritune moments. For waist and thigh rigs, they are mostly relying on the Safariland with the bail on top. I've used those exclusively myself for VBSS. Concealed, the names to go with are Comp Tac or Raven Concealement.

I'm about to do this mod and I went with a Comp Tac Holster. Unfortunately, it's curved to fit to a belt, but I'm trying to figure out how to put it in anyway. I'm also trying to figure out a way to make it modular, in case I decide to purchase a different holster or gun and want to swap out the holsters. Just some thoughts.

I just did this mod with the DVD player in there. This is a very easy mod and there is plenty of room for the DVD player and the gun. The only issue I had with the DVD player is it is just a little tough to put the console back together, simply because of the tight fit between the DVD player and the holster where there is a single screw. Great writeup Beason!

I do believe that is the Fobus "Roto" Holster. Fobus is the manufacturer and Roto is the model. Basically it has the ability for different mounting positions by allowing the holster to rotate. Lots of guys use them for "Desk" guns. I am a bigger fan of the Blackhawk quick disconnect system.

Yeah, but you don't have to worry about any failure to retain it while it is sitting in your center console (unless your doing some serious offroading and find yoourself upside down). The Blackhawk is alot cheaper than the other brands and the way it is designed, works great in the console.

Yup, no worries about retention while in the truck. Couldn't find a BH Sportster at 3 different LGS's so I went with an Uncle Mikes Reflex. Belt slide screws off much like the BH, and it has a "twist" retention on it instead of a button. Works well for me, the holster sticks far enough out that I can get plenty of twist to unholster my G19.

Subscribed - awesome lil mod Beason! I recently acquired an ACP 1911 .45 and the guy already gave me a blackhawk holster.. Now I just need to clean out my center console. VERY COOL bro!

In Louisiana your car is a extension of your home. Carjackings happen less frequent here..:) I plan to get my conceal carry permit in a few weeks so look out Walmart..... Great idea and thanks for posting.

Same here in TX. if you are legal to own a gun, you are legal to have it in your vehicle. but it has to be concealed.

That is debatable. There is an added presumption clause, but it does not replace the original law.

From what i understand, it cannot be seen from the drivers window. I can see an issue coming up if you dont have any tint, and people in traffic can see your gun..

Academy has a wide selection of blackhawk, fobus, and uncle mikes holsters.

that is where i got this one. $28.99 The only one i know of though that will work, is the blackhawk sportster.
