How do you remove radio insert?

I need to get behind my dash to run some wires, but I don't want to start prying the wrong end. Plus, how do you pop it off without scratching the paint? Basically I need to take the whole radio/AC panel off and also the tray insert on top.

Use a thin screwdriver or a putty knife; slip it in at the top of the insert. It will snap out easily.
