V8 logo removal

How do you remove the V8 logo on the side of the truck. I do not want to scratch my new truck when I install the new bushwacker fender flares.

Thank you

Use a hot air gun on low....only..keep it moving....push with a new plastic bondo blade under the edge..gently push and heat..it comes off in seconds..cleaning the goo off takes a while....use a mineral spirits...just a little.then wash and wax and all traces are gone.....You will have to notch the Bushwackers if you want to keep the mud flaps on. Bushwacker says you can't use the mud flaps with their flares!!! BS.....don't remove the flaps as step 1 shows....leave them on....or you will damage the tape that holds them on partially.

Use dental floss and go behind it back and forth. Piece of cake.

Thanks for the info. I like the floss idea.

Acetone removes goo well. Will it ruin the finish?

Thanks

I tried alcohol, then goo-gone, and finally had to use acetone to remove the residue. Even with acetone it is a *****. Get a plastic putty knife to help scrape. You should be fine as long as you rinse the acetone off immediately with soap and water. The rewax the truck before installing the flares.

20 lb test fishing line

Dental floss breaks too easily. Just loop around it and garrot it off. It is best to try to pull the emblem from the tape then the tape will roll off with your finger. I had minimal residue and took it off with polish.

There were a couple older threads about this. It seams some came off easily, others were a complete PITA. Mine being the latter. Guess you'll find out what category you fall under once you get the actual emblem off.

Thanks, I'll try when I get my flares. All sound like good ideas to try.

I missed the previous thread.

i did all the emblems a couple of days ago before waxing. i warmed up the fender logos with a heat gun and then cut them off with dental floss. i found that most of the adhesive stays behind on the fenders. if you apply enough heat until the surface appears to be gooey, you can actually "roll" the goo off with your finger tips! i used goo gone to clean it up.

the tailgate badging was even easier. apply heat. cut off letters. the adhesive simply peeled off cleanly without applying additional heat.

digimax......sorry I don't haved a digital camera.....to notch the flares as I said leave the flaps on.....hold the flare as clost to inplace where it will mount....mark the width of the cut needed with a pencil on the flare when you hold it to the flap..you will sight the width.....then cut with tin snips....for the depth...I just went a little at a time.....then hold into place and see about going deeper until it is snug..a little corner trimming may be necessary..and an extra screw in the lower point of the flare where it stops in the fender well area...takes about 5-10 minutes per flare to notch-out with a good fit.

I'd try it without heat first. Just makes the tape stickier. Alcohol seems to help break the seal too.

Thanks,

I think I got the picture. Can't wait to get them on.

Irony= pulling all your badging off yet having an avatar with your badge.
