Update... my neighbor got his tail gate stolen while parked at a local Wal-Mart.
I asked him why he didn't lock his tailgate and he told me what a pain in the @ss it is to walk back there and stick the key in and that he always forgets/never thinks to do it.
I didn't have the heart to tell him how easy it is to make the tailgate lock automatically with the doors.
BTW, his truck is a Chevy but they are all just as easy to steal.

When wiring the actuator you can tap into the viloet and the green/yellow wire that is directly under the drives side step panel (not sure of the exact name lol) rather than having to take off the kick panel and sort throuh the thicker/harder to access bundle of wires. Also, I have a CC so I'm not sure if this applies to the KC or not. The V and G/Y wires run back to the rear door switch and will work just as well. Behind the kick panel there are a couple of green wires so I was not too confident in cutting into all of them so after looked at the schematic G/Y can bee used too. Thanks again PCiley for this mod...it took me longer than expected (due to weather)but was pretty easy
Thanks for the info!!! CrewCab owners read SarkaZm's post about the more accessible wire. KC owners disregard. Yeah, that wire doesn't run under the door sill on a King Cab. Would have been nice though.
I am going to try this - although with my oil spray, it is pretty messy in there! This will be great for locking unlocking for my kids hockey equipment!
Question, can you get the parts at Radio Shack?

Now it is up for sale - or at least the BFGs and the Cap!
My local Radio Shack does NOT carry power door lock actuators, but I don't know if they all carry the same stuff or not. I would try a stereo shop or retailer like Circuit City, Best Buy, Good guys, Al & Ed's, etc.

If you just ordered from Parts Express (see above) you would have had the parts by now! lol

You are da-man . I ordered everything from partexpress. Exactly what I needed for the job. Well, san the plumber tape and one screw and bolt to attach the tape to the actuator. Got 'em at HD.
Yep, did it in one afternoon. Awesome instruction. worked like a champ. Thanks so much guys. Now I don't have to worry if I manually locked the tailgate or not.

Good to hear...I love PartsExpress. Can't beat the price of this mod
I just ordered from Part's Express. I have an ARE-Z shell with the remote lock feature already installed, so I am hoping that should make things pretty easy.
I've got my actuator here from parts express, and I went out looking for a weatherproof disconnector but I couldn't find anything at sears hardware of autozone that looked up to the task.
Where did you guys find yours?

Ordered mine from parts express at the same time as actuator. Try Radio Shack maybe.

I used a two wire trailer connector (looks identical to the flat 4 wire connector only smaller with 2 wires). I got the part at advanced auto parts but I bet nappa would sell it also.

I ran them to the passenger side on my SE KC so that it won't lock and unlock everytime you use the drivers side door. If you take the glove box out (like you were replacing the filters) it gives you a lot more rooom to work and find what you need. Stick you hand up to where the wires come in through the door and you will find a small bundle of wires wrapped in a black fabric like material with a pink paper tag on it. Strip the fabric back and you will see a purple wire and a green wire those are the two wires you need.
I think there are two or three sets of wires in that area. It is the smallest set of wires.
