Wow, I dont know why I've never been in this sub forum...

Great write up, for $20, I'm so doing this mod. Tired of trying to remember if its locked or not...

*EDIT* Woo Hoo, parts came in today...

Baseballfanz, my actuator didnt come with a stem like yours, I take it you bent it that way? With some needle nose plyers?

I cant wait, prob. wont do this untill Friday or early next week...

I have a feeling I'm going to have some friends and family that are going to want me to duplicate this mod on their trucks...

FYI dont test the poper with an 18v cordless drill battery. I figured if I only did it a couple of times it wouldnt hurt it, also would be easier to test the lock and unlock adjustment prior to running the wires under the truck...

Killed my popper I had got from parts express, guess I'll be ordering another...

Thumbs up

I did this mod Friday afternoon in about two hours. It works great! I got the actuator locally in Memphis for 12.95. It came with the bracket and enough wire to reach thru the tailgate weep holes.

I ran my wires to the passenger side, so it would lock/unlock with the passenger doors. When I popped off the front passenger rocker cover, there was a cable tray underneath ncontaining the wires. I popped off the cable tray cover, and inside, I found the violet and G/Y wires just where the come out of the harness. That made it easy to tap the wires without cutting into the harness. Plus my connections fit under the cable tray cover neatly.

My actuator had a yellow and a white wire. I ran the yellow to the truck's violet and the white to the truck's G/Y.

Thanks to all who contributed!

Great info, where in Mempho did you get your actuator? I tried one place on covington pike accross from the used honda dealership and he told me $75, I tried a guy off of MRS that works at soundwaves and he told me $29.95. I was just going to re-order one from Parts Express for $5 plus $7 shipping again...

I still have not finished mine, had some health issues and now I'm on vacation in Oklahoma...

Thanks in advance, we need to get a Memphis meet together sometime...

Smoken,

I got mine at Southern Automotive Acessories on Pleasant View, just off Covington Pike. Everywhere else it was 49.95 or higher.

Send me a PM sometime. I'm in Memphis every day.

Sweet, glad to see this mod is going strong! Definitely a good bang for your buck mod. It is so much better not having to remember if I locked the tailgate or not!

Hmmmm, I think I'll take the plunge and try this mod (not like I haven't tried everything else )

Someone mentioned that they got their actuator from Circuit City, what was the part number/description? I looked online, but they don't provide picts. They offer a door unlock and a truck, just wondering which one was used. I believe it was around $40, but might be worth it if it comes with the brackets.

Sammy: Buy the one from Parts Express. At $4.25, you can't go wrong - it works great.

Yeah, but if I can just run down to Circuit City and get one with all the brackets and fittings for $30 more, then it's probably worth it. Just wondering if it's got what I'm looking for. Ah hell, got nothing better to do today, might as well go scout it out.

Too late, but nice effort. I needed to go by Circuit City anyways, so I checked it out. It was $30, not $40, so not that much either way. It came with everything, so no need to make any brackets or wait for the UPS man.
