we aren't talking about manually flipping the switch-- we are talking about using the same circuit to trigger the solenoid...

I started this mod this weekend, after removing the kick panel on both the drivers side and the passenger side, I could not locate either a violet\purple or a green with yellow wire. I have a KC so I would like to verify or speak with anyone who has done this mod on a KC. Please help half done mod....

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

not sure if anyone replied to you, but you could always remove the door panel and check the wires that way.

You can find those wires under the passenger door sill.

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

i know where too find them lol, i am just saying that if you remove the door panel and follow the wires from where they plug into the actuator on the l/f door to the harness you can match the colors up.

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

So I got everything hooked up and when I fired the lock/unlock the actuator went nuts. I had to unhook it to stop the noise.

I tested the actuator to the battery, fired perfectly. Tested voltage with my meter on the 2 wires, saw 12 V when I should.

I'm not sure whats up. Now its raining so I cant continue to work on it. UGH. Maybe my voltage is backwards? Guess I'll try flipping the wires.

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

OnlyI could screw this up.

So I swapped the wires, in the rain, and it does the same thing. I unhooked the lock portion so its not connected to anything, fired it, same result.

How does this system work? Does it fire 12v to lock and then 12v to unlock? Does it reverse the polarity to lock versus unlock?

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

Are you sure you got the right wires? Use a test light and make sure it lights when you lock or unlock to ensure you have the right wires.

The actuator can be tested by applying voltage across both wires (I used a 9v battery to test mine when I got it). Then reverse polarity on wires and it should move in opposite direction.

Hope the rain lets up.

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

I tested the actuator and its fine. Your right, flips on polarity reversal.

I MUST have the wrong wires hooked to it. I am using the green/yellow stripe and solid purple from under the passenger foot well.

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

I also tapped my wiring in from the passenger footwell. You should test your choosen wires with a test light, if you have one. There are many wires in that bundle and it's easy to grab the wrong ones.

Good Luck!

Re: Tailgate Power Lock

DUH.

Use the LARGE purple wire. Another poster mentioned it, I missed it. Teachs me.

Works perfectly.

Got my CB antenna installed too.

Productive 2 hours.
