clay bar help

well, since i have gotten the TITAN, i have been ignoring the 97 pathfinder that i handed down to my wife (after i sold the 02 maxima she was driving). so, i decided to wash and wax. i hand washed and dried, and, while drying, i noticed that the paint was rough and really needed some reconditioning. so, i went to autozone and bought a clay bar kit (clay bar and some kind of spray lube for it).
i clayed the whole thing and it felt smooth as glass when i was finished, but im not sure if i was doing it correctly. i sprayed the lube on a 1-2 foot square and started rubbing the clay on it. when it looked dirty, i folded the clay over and kept working it. then when i was finished w/ an area, i wiped down w/ a microfiber cloth.
is that it? did i miss something? hard work, no doubt. but, damn, what a finish. it looked like i had just waxed it.
one last thing, how do you keep it from sticking to your hands (the clay). do you just spray some stuff on your hands?

i wanted to practice, so that when comes time to do the TITAN, i know what im doing.

Steve,

It looks like you are doing everything correctly. I spray the clay bar solution on my hands to keep it from sticking. For a good discussion on clay bars click on the link below.

We swore by it with the 350Z crowd. It won't disappoint. I've seen it make darker cars look like mirrors from certain angles.

With regard to clay-bar work - take a couple of drops of car wash solution, or dawn soap (you're taking the existing wax off anyway with a claybar) and put it in a spray bottle with water. Spray the area you're working, and rub the clay bar in that area.

The rest of the steps you've done correctly, except after you clay the finish, you should apply new wax/polish. That way, you've protected your now clean finish.

Good luck!!!

be sure not to use the entire bar of clay. Take only a piece of it. When you are kneading it in again and again. it will be full of dirt after several uses and needs to be disgarded.

Hey Gang,
New to the Titan world...Just traded my Q45 for an 04 CC...Anyhow I wanted to drop a recomendation on some incredible car care products. www.griotsgarage.com Ive used just about everything over the years out there and this is the only line that ever touches any of my cars...and Truck.
When i use there clay i just throw on a plain ole shop latex glove and spray the speed shine on that hand.

What he said!

I've used Zaino in the past on my Black Grand Prix GTP, downright sweet. I can't wait to do the Titan with it. That stuff turns your paint into a mirror and the way rain runs off of it is downright incredible.
