question about trailer wiring

I have been reading all the threads about wiring for towing. I have the two relays. My question is the harness has a 7 pin connector at end. It appears to be a female. Do I need to purchase another connector and why can't I just use the one at end of harness. Is it because the connection from the trailer is female and won't connect . Thanks. sorry for my ignorance on this matter.

The hitch connectors conventionally are designated "vehicle end" and "trailer end" as shown here: http://www.etrailer.com/faq/wiring.asp

You should have a connector that looks like the round 7 way truck end connector on your truck.
