Power Window install Fuse box help

I own a 2004 Titan xe kc that comes with manual windows and manual door locks. I bought a Spal power window kit and was looking to install it myself. Now i'm not an expert in car electronics or wiring but i'm starting to understand a lot of it. I noticed in my fuse box it showed fuses for mirrors, front heat seat and rear heat seat. I know i dont have power mirrors or "front heat seat" or rear (i dont know what those are for ) so i was thinking instead of getting the power straight from the battery through a dedicated wire through the firewall etc...... i'd just get the power from one of these supposed accessories that i dont have in my truck and save the headache of all that other stuff. Is that possible??

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

You can get power from anywhere but make sure you put an inline fuse on that wire. The closer the fuse to the source the better.

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

Step 1 - determine max current draw (amps) for your power window circuit and review wiring diagram for the kit. Perhaps you need two power sources? (one low amp for relays and one high amp power for drive motors). If you can post the wiring diagram for the kit, people can advise you better.

Step 2 - determine whether you want/need power to the windows with the key off.

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

This is the wiring diagram for my spal power window kit

http://www.spalusa.com/power_window_...-%203%20SK.pdf

The max amps is 25 and i would want it powered with the acc turn of the key. Would it be possible to replace the amp fuse of the power mirrors (which i dont have on my truck) from 10 amps to a 25 amp fuse and put the power wire in place of the power mirror wire, which i'm not using? That way, assumingly , the power windows are powered with the ignition key? (stupid theory maybe??)

Thanks for all your help guys!

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

No, you can not safely upsize the fuse in an existing circuit. The fuse in a circuit is typically selected to match the current carrying capacity of the wire gage in order to protect the wire from burning up from excessive current draw.

American Wire Gauge table and AWG Electrical Current Load Limits

The trigger lead 86 of a typical Bosch 30 amp relay is very low draw, less than one amp, and could use a small gage wire and tap an existing circuit that is switched by the ignition. When the trigger lead is powered, it energizes coils in the relay which pull the contacts closed, connecting the power in 30 to the power out 87. The inside cover of the passenger side dash fuse box has the circuits marked IGN or BAT and indicate whether they are powered directly by the battery or switched by the ignition. You could tap an IGN circuit with a littlefuse mini-blade add a circuit or a Radio Shack fuse tap and run a small gage wire through the A/C drain grommet to a relay under the hood for the trigger wire. Alternatively, there is probably an IGN on circuit you could tap in one of the fuse boxes under the hood.

It is not clear to me how the lighting circuit is connected where it indicates +Light on the diagram. Is that connected to a switch or do the lights stay on all the time?

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

The +light is connected to the parking lights wire so that when the lights in the truck are turned on the switch is illuminated.

So what would be the suggested way to connect the fused power wire to a 12v source, that ultimately goes to the 30 pin on the relay? Is running a dedicated wire from the + side of the battery the best way to go, or are there other options?

Yes, I would go from battery to fuse to pin 30. If you have the stock battery, there is a small accessory post on the battery that you could use to make the connection with a ring terminal.

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

What gauge wire do i use for the direct connection to the battery? and do i still put a 25 amp fuse on that wire?

Does anyone know where i could get access through the firewall to run the power wire through? Whats the best place to ground both the relay and the power window kit? Thanks in advance

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

You shouldn't need more than 16ga wire. The power windows have very small amp draw. I installed the same kit on my old F150, it was easy to install but time consuming. I spent several hours just trying to decide how to best mount the motor so it wasn't in the way of anything. I liked the kit because it came with the complete wiring harness. PDL is just as easy, just have to mount the actuators and I suggest running them directly to a keyless entry system w/alarm.

Re: Power Window install Fuse box help

Does anyone know if it's ok to use a 5 pin bosch relay instead of the 4 pin relay? Does it act the same if i dont connect anything into the 87a pin?
