Re: HOW TO: Install B&M Transmission Temp Gauge Kit

I ran the wire into the A/C drain hole. It's on Passenger side fire wall. I wraped electical tape before I pushed the wire thru and then from the interior Passenger floor you can put your finger where the rubber drain hose is and you will feel the wire and just pull it thru. I also covered the wire with wire loom from the sending unit to the firewall.

Re: HOW TO: Install B&M Transmission Temp Gauge Kit

Just in case you don't misunderstand, the wire does not go into the drain tube, it just is next to the tube sharing the hole in the firewall. Maybe drilling a hole from inside next to the hole might be better but I was not sure that I wouldn't drill into something that I shouldn't.

lol..yeah, at first i was like, he didnt run the wire through the drain tube did he...lol...then i realized what you meant. sounds like the perfect place. no reason to drill more holes when u dont have to.

There are a couple of rubber plugs unused that come out just behind to the left of the brake booster. I popped one out and cut a slot in the middle and pushed the connector through then replaced it.

The drain plug might be a better location so you are not running the wires over the cooler lines like I did.

The supplied wiring is a little short to wire the way I intended.

So the Thread Size in the Plug on the side if the Transmission is 1/8-27 NPT?

I think the coolant line is a terrible place to install a sending unit. You are either getting the fluid on its way to the cooler, or on its way back, which isnt accurate of whats happening inside. I suppose the line to the cooler would be fairly accurate, but what if it heats up just as its leaving the case to the point where you are worried, but the fluid doing most of the work in the case is still at a fine temp.

I suppose the best case scenario is welding a fitting into the bottom of the pan, and screwing the sending unit in there, but who wants to drop and drain and cut and weld....

Re: HOW TO: Install B&M Transmission Temp Gauge Kit

IMO, you want to monitor the temp., comparing normal driving conditions and when towing or other extreme driving conditions. Example; my temp. guage reads 130 to 140 deg. normal driving conditions. As soon as I get the chance to tow, then I will see how much the temp. increases. By monitoring the temp. guage when towing, you can learn how to keep the trans. from getting too hot, by either slowing down or shifting gears.

Re: HOW TO: Install B&M Transmission Temp Gauge Kit

The gauge gives you a different perspective on driving while towing. I was towing to the temp gauge more than speedometer this trip. It lets you know fairly quick when you need to adjust speed or gear.

I watched again this morning around town not towing. Normal 35 mph driving was around 145. Sitting at a stop light the temp would rise some. I forgot to look for a while but after driving stop and go for a few miles I was at 185.

It sure would be nice if someone could post the definite size of this port!

Thanks in advance.

Re: HOW TO: Install B&M Transmission Temp Gauge Kit

The sensor that came with the B&M Kit has tapered threads.
Because of the taper, it only screws into the port a certain distance before it jams.

The difference between many pipe threads and those on bolts and screws is that pipe threads must make not only a mechanical joint but also one that is leak proof. This would explain the reason for the o-ring around plug in the test port and why one member had leaks after installing the sensor without thread sealant.

Some sensors may be different so I just wanted to share my experience with the B&M.

Re: HOW TO: Install B&M Transmission Temp Gauge Kit

I had this thought.

Perhaps ALL of the Titan transmissions have a temp sensor installed inside!

Regardless if the vehicle has a gage on the instrument cluster.

Are you going to look for an adapter to make this work?
