Can you purchase the Toyota nipple at any auto parts store?

Glad someone posted that 'yota Part number. I will be going there tonight to get it. I've had the hose/clamps/filter sitting under the backseat of my truck for about a month now. I too, could not find the correct fitting at ACE/Lowes/Home Depot/Sears/any other local hardware stores. Found one that was close, but wasn't going to force the issue and potentially damage threads on the axle tube.
I found the part online at a few Toyota Parts sites (Discount Toyota Parts among others) for around $3.89 in case anyones local 'yota dealer is lagging.

Nice, that was the biggest PIA thing about the whole thing. Going to the Yota dealer to get a part for my Titan. Sales guys were like vultures flying overhead thinking I was interested in the new Tundra. A couple were staring at my truck, with the banks tip just pointed their way. I turned the key and let them hear a real truck...they got that big wide eyed - deer in the head lights look. Later...as I let it roar out of there. Nice to get the part on line if possible, save you some face.

My local yota dealer has two seperate lots, one for cars and one for trucks/suv's. The parts place is at the car lot, so I didn't have the same problems as you, LOL!
OK, after searching this forum, it appears that the correct thread size fitting is Toyota part #9040451026 which goes for about $3.00.
FYI, Excellent quality part, glad I went to the Toyota dealer today! LOL
It is a Hose Barb with an 1/8" National Pipe Straight (NPTF or Dryseal) Thread. It has a 1/4" Hose Barb. I checked pitch against a tap, and diameter with my Dial Calipers to confirm. So, 1/4" Hose should provide best fit.
Generally speaking, commonly available Hose Barbs have National Pipe Tapered (NPT) thread, so the extra diameter of a Tapered thread will cause difficulty going into a National Pipe Straight (NPS) female thread as is apparently found on the Titan axle.
An NPS male thread however, will fit into an NPS or NPT female thread easily.
FWIW: Yes, some standards have multiple nomenclature. "The Technical Shop Reference Manual" ($30, has a Blue cover) is an excellent guide many of us could use. Available through your local bookstore or try www.mcmastercarr.com.

I was thinking about doing this mod since i just had 2 seals blow (one was the pinion seal). However, after doing a little searching, i found a few cases of people blowing out diff fluid and leaving a puddle. How many people have had those problems and should i be worried? Also, anyone who has done this mod a year or so ago, have you blown any seals since then? Thanks

Really, I've read a few. I would list them but I can't post URLs yet so. If you do a search there are at least two or three people talking about it.
just post the end part of the url without the www part
I've done a search for vent, axle vent, and puddle and can't seem to locate the thread you speak of. I don't doubt you, just would like to read more about it.
Interesting. I did notice that both guys were running aftermarket diff covers. I have no idea why that would cause a problem though. I don't know what to tell you though. There have been many who have done this without any problems. Use 1/4" ID tubing and you shouldn't have a problem.
Here's a pic of my setup, ignore the wiring, that's another story.
