oh and my wife decided to draw a happy face on the diff pic ...lol
I have the Mag-Hytec and axle vent mod......no problems but I also re-designed/improved the axle vent mod.

He keeps saying he modded the axle vent mod and made it better, pffft, I don't think he did at all, I think he is just trying to increase his post count. Anybody who says they made it better surely would have posted pics and a write up about it. LOL .............well maybe that will spur him to put the write up and pics out there. LOL.

okay i change out my rear diff fluid and the plug had lots of goop on it .. no chunks but there seemed to be alot of shavings IMO.. my first time changeing it my self so im not sure exactly what i should be looking for....the fluid itself seemd okay .. was not dark or funky smelling ... here are some pics ...some pics are of my fingers having scraped alot of the goop off of the plug .... i did the vent mod to but did not get any pics of it . it pretty much looks the same as the rest though.
normal from what I and others have seen. No chunks is goodl

I agree, that is normal, you do not have chunks of anything, almost like a fine powdery mush is all and that amount is normal even for mine when I went with the TT on mine, with 25K miles.

FYI, Excellent quality part, glad I went to the Toyota dealer today! LOL
It is a Hose Barb with an 1/8" National Pipe Straight (NPTF or Dryseal) Thread. It has a 1/4" Hose Barb. I checked pitch against a tap, and diameter with my Dial Calipers to confirm. So, 1/4" Hose should provide best fit.
Generally speaking, commonly available Hose Barbs have National Pipe Tapered (NPT) thread, so the extra diameter of a Tapered thread will cause difficulty going into a National Pipe Straight (NPS) female thread as is apparently found on the Titan axle.
An NPS male thread however, will fit into an NPS or NPT female thread easily.
FWIW: Yes, some standards have multiple nomenclature. "The Technical Shop Reference Manual" ($30, has a Blue cover) is an excellent guide many of us could use. Available through your local bookstore or try www.mcmastercarr.com.
I must say this is a great mod. I must also say that my axle did not have a vent in it, all it had was a plastic threaded plug, no vent at all, when I removed it, the axle had at least 30 psi of air trapped and expanding in it. I removed the plug and the air rush out of the hole was so great that it literally whistled and decompressed for at least 3 or 4 seconds! HMMMMM, I wonder why rear axle seals are failing?
I purchased the recommended Toyota nipple and parts listed in this thread. They all worked well, no issues at all with the installation. I made sure to leave a jounce and rebound coil in the vent hose using the natural curvature of the hose to create it. I then followed the factory wire harness to the rear of the truck using its clips to provide the support for the vent hose. I also placed two feet of convolute on the hose to insure that it would not chaff on any of the sheet metal or the bed mounts. The hose was tight enough that it really did not need any hose clamps to hold the filter on. It will need to be cut off if I ever need to change it. All in all this should save my rear axle seals from failing, I’m surprised they had not failed with the amount of air pressure residing in it.
Wow. This is great. The only thing that I would add here is to use Scotch Super 88 to tape the convolute together. You can get it at the hardware store. It's the outdoor electrical tape that Scotch 3M makes. Good for very low and high temps.
There's stuff that's tougher than that i.e. the stretchable, moisture resistant stuff but I think that's overkill. The moisture resistant stuff is sticky on the outside surface, so I think that it may gather dirt.
I'm not sure if there's tape specifically for automobiles though. Maybe there's something that's even better than Scotch super 88.
I've been reading these forums for years but this is my first post. I can't tell you all how many times some of the posts here have saved me money and time.
I purchased my 04 Titan SE 4x4 in March of 2005. I had the rear axle/diff replaced 10 months later due to an odd clicking and a rusty diff plate. This last weekend I was changing my brakes when I noticed an oily residue on the rear driver's side rotor. It ended up being a blown seal in the axle. Nissan corrected it (I have the upgraded '05 axle)... so I'm hoping it lasts.
Has anyone had any trouble since installing this vent mod? I'm thinking of getting the parts this coming weekend to avoid future issues.
So....I just bought another 2007 Titan LE CC 4x4 Off Road Big tow....As soon as I get it home I realize that the rear seals have started leaking....probably cause Carmax did a rear-end oil change.....its gettin fixed next friday...then the vent mode is gettin done..... lets hope for no issues after that....
