so if nissan is replacing the whole axle is it covered under warranty? and if so for how long.
Mine was covered under warranty, I would imagine it is covered the remainder of the factory warranty, I had 31K on it, but have the 100K extended also.

Wish i would have paid more attention to this a while ago. Just noticed my right side axle seal is leaking. Checked the breather and it was plugged solid. Picked up all the parts to do the mod just gotta throw them on.
Just did this mod myself, as mentioned brass fittings from a hardware store are tight. I ended up crossthreading the deal, but just happened to have an NPT Tap and Die in my metric set that fit. Re-threaded the axle to the NPT caught most of the shavings ont he die and with a magnet the magnet in the rear end will catch the rest if theres any I'm not worried. Yet the brass was still stiff to thread in... I surrender but it's in there. Of course I didn't but enough tubing so I'm going to have to go back for some more and a barb connector.
I have read a fe wposts on the axles seals where some of you got the axle replaced . I bought a 2 year warranty with my truck and still have over 14k and 11 months left on it . Is Nissan still replacing axles or just seasla and bearings ? I dont want to let this get away from me....mines a 2004 XE CC Ive got 69K on it . I love my truck but want to make sure I get another 5-6 years out of it . Any and all help /advice on dealing with service Depts. etc will be great thanks guys!
Alright, just came across this thread. I have never thought about my rear axle leaking (I don't usually care about problems till they happen) but I went outside anyways with a flashlight and took a look.
My axle vent looks like this: (btw I stole this pic from a few pages back)

mmtitan, just make sure the vent cap rotates freely and wiggles a little bit up and down. I check mine every month or so to make sure it doesn't get clogged up. I'm fairly certain if you do that every month or so you probably won't have a problem. Some oil residue around the vent is normal.

Cool. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that right now. I am going to have to do the vent mod though because I play out in the woods a lot and last time I changed my diff fluid out it was milky
Anybody else having leaking problems with this mod? I just checked my stock vent and it spins and moves up and down freely. I would still like to do this mod anyway.
I bought the parts for the mod from the local Ace hardware, and of course the 1/4" hose barb fitting doesn't work. So I'll be off to a Toyota dealer for their part. I did pull the vent on my '07 with 20k miles out though, and it was all but plugged with silt. So I cleaned it out well and made sure it moved freely before I put it back in as I towed my travel trailer about 300 miles this weekend and figured I'd get the rear end nice and warm towing.
If you don't do the axle mod, check and clean that vent regularly.
And thanks to all the posters on this thread. This info is great.
